trouble starting SOHC

so at 3:30 in the morning when i'm stranded in the middle of nowhere, my car won't start. at first, it turned over slowly, but then eventually quit turning over at all and just made a ticking sound when i turned the key. a friend and i came back and jumped it and it started up after a little turning and now it's doing the same thing... does anyone know what the problem could be?

were you sitting with your girlfirend and listening to the stereo system for about 3 hours?? that might be why...
