Alternator?

Post by west »

Hi guys, i`m a newbi in all of this, still learning about my car, but i have a lil problem, when the car is stop, and i put the volume up on the sound system, if i look at the rpm, is going down to 600 then going up to 1,200 and when i put the voulme down, it comes back to 1,000, i was wondering if it was the Alternator or something else?
My car : mx-3 4 cylinder 93'
thanks in advance
:)

rs has a 70 amp alternator, gs's is 90 amp one. If your amps pull alot of amps
(measurement), then it will cause light dimming and idle flux.

How much power is your audio system pulling?
You may just need a stiffening capacitor,or to upgrade to a gs alternator.
If your system is under a thousand watts you probably could get away with just a one farad cap.
Im having the same problem and i need lots more power so I'm looking at getting a custom alt.Theres another guy here that says he got a custom alt.for his but i dont think he's got it hooked up yet.So i'm kinda waitng to see how well it worked or if i should try a diff. setup.

I just got a custom alt made.... (I don't know if I am the guy you were talking about Palofpits) and I did install it finally... it took me 3 days(I ran into a few problems where it took some research to solve, and I had to work during the days. So far, I can't notice any difference cuz I haven't put the system back in, and my battery is VERRRRRRY bad. I get a new battery Monday(SVR 80-12 :D!), and I will get it metered next weekend(2 times even) so I will know how well it works. I can refer you to the guy that made my alternator if you email me. And I will be able to tell you its "effectiveness" soon. Also, I couldn't find my digital camera(still can't), so I hd to take old fashioned 35mm pics. I will get the film developed eventually, and I will show what the new one looks like...... its a monster! :D!
O yah, and West... 500rpms isn't bad, 200 is! lol, I truely used to have to rev my engine if I stopped to play my system somewhere...
