B6T Swap
Hi I'm searching for a person that have done a B6T swap from a RS 1.6 DOHC. I would like to know what I must change or do to make it fit. I would also know where can I place the intercooler? If someone can help me because I really need more info on this before buying this engine. And if you have picture please email me.
Thanks a lot!
Sebastien
sebastien_mongrain@videotron.ca

Re: B6T Swap
I have the B6T in place of my sohc, the swap is very similar to the dohc. The main difference being that you would have to drill a 3/4" hole in your tranny-oil pan bracket to feed the turbo oil return line through. The swap is actually harder than it sounds. The hard part isn't putting the motor in, it is the wiring. You have to completely disassemble the left side of the motor to get at the motor mount that needs to be swapped. You might have problems feeding in the passenger side axle, I had to lay on my back for 3 hours with an angle grinder to shave enough metal off of a flange to pass the axle through to the tranny. Other than those problems it is easy getting it in. Intercooler placement is a PITA. I got rid of the hood latch and brace so that I can front mount my setup. I will be using hood pins to hold the hood down. THis is the only way to do the FMIC. The other option is to use a water to air i/c. To run the pipes I had to remove the windshield washer resevoir, and the bumper to cut holes in the front panels of the body. The w/w fluid can be wired to pump from the rear bottle. You need to also put a hood scoop on, as the intake manifold sits too high. Next big thing is the wiring. I have the majority of it figured out, but the car isn't running yet. I am working with another guy on the swap. When I have all the info on the wiring I will either post it to the egroups or on this site.
If you have any more questions, drop me a message.

Re: B6T Swap
Hi Maldo yes when you'll finish your swap please tell me because I'm really interest in making it. Secondly I would like to know where you bought your engine and how much will it cost you for the engine and all the modification (in canadian money because I live in Quebec). Finally I would like to know if you install the stock intercooler, turbo and manifold for the B6T (323 GTX)?
Thanks and I'm waiting.
Please email me when you have done.
Sebastien
sebastien_mongrain@videotron.ca
[This message has been edited by ventoura (edited July 27, 2001).]

Re: B6T Swap
Total cost of the swap is hitting close to $2000 CDN. I bought the motor for $500 from a GTX in Halifax and had it shipped to Saskatoon. I am using the stock manifold and i/c. The i/c will be front mounted, this requres the use of hood pins. The swap is done except for wiring. So at the moment it doesn't run yet. I will let you know all the details when it is done.
