I never saw the rust on the upper spring support but it doesn't look very good. This is NOT the vehicle body, just the support as shown below as item #6:

All of our mx-3's have this problem, the rear upper strut mounts rot like crazy and if you don't replace them frequently they will start to rust the upper tower. Also a design flaw is the water running down after raining if you open your hatch, water will sit on top and seep into the upper shock tower, I've always had a few rags ready for when opening the hatch... LOL
