To any of our MX3 friends in Australia or Japan, I'm looking for an off the shelf distributor cap.
Needs to be the JDM / AUS 7 Post cap that we North Americans didn't get...
My understanding is the cap is the same for all mx3/mx6/ford probe/xedos6/millenia etc., anything with a distributor and K-series engine. (So before 1996? ish.)
I've got family in Scotland. I'll see if they can ship me one.
Which brings me to a UK based question... what's the equiv. store to a Canadian Tire / Part Source in the UK to get your parts from?
Also what year and model should I ask for... I was thinking a 1995 MX6 or Ford Probe... Figure that's gotta be safe right?
So I looked up the part numbers... seems that the KL03 / KLDE / KLZE did not have the 7-post distributor cap that I need...
But the KF 2.0L V6 did... came with the external coil and wires.
So that part number for that CAP is KF01-18-V00, with aftermarket manufacturers having part numbers: J5323019, and M532A22.
I'll get one shipped from Scotland. I like the factory look of the distributor cap, and then I can run any coil I happen to have kicking around, also makes using my MSD Ignition easier.
For anyone looking for the assembly information and Mazda Part numbers, it might be considerably cheaper to get the new OEM 7-Post distributor cap then it is to modify the KL disty cap.
I may be off base here but I thought the ZE 7 post disty cap was different in size than our standard K8/DE cap. I'll need to compare when I get a moment. ZE's definitely came with a 7 post cap, the distys had no internal coil so they would of had to. I've seen them at the JDM dealer as well.

I grabbed one off of the UK Ebay. Fit perfectly. It's an OEM, HEI mod.
The cap is still being produced by Mazda, I only now found out that I could have ordered it directly from my local Mazda Dealership... because it's not for a North American car they will not accept returns on the part if it doesn't work. (At least my local dealership will. )

93 GS red (wrecked) I modify my ride so I can drive around the stupid people
That's the correct part number. It was used on the Lantis Type-R with the 2.0L KF-DE / KF-ZE engine.
It bolts right up to our original distributor/rotor/coil, but if you can grab only the distributor/rotor combo it's almost 4lbs lighter and much more compact. But I noticed the plugs aren't the same...
