Odd Check Engine Light

So after I replaced the tensioner and belt car runs perfect again but....the check engine light came on bout halfway home...no change in running...still runs just fine. When I shut the car off the light goes out. But after a bit of driving it just comes in again. Anyway to check it myself before hunting down a shop to do it...like using jumper wires or something..

So I found how tk check it but the issue is the light goes out once I turn the car off. So if I were to do it as instructed thered be no check engine code.....right?

jump sti and gnd at diag port by the driverside strut tower. turn key on, engine off count flashes then search for the code on here.. long flashes count as 10s and short flashes count as 1s. For instance if flashing = long long short the code would be 21.

I got it code 16 egr ...whatever tho I dont have to smog so no big:)

Depends if the EGR is stuck open or closed. Your engine is running fine so no worries but just in case check the plug and vac hose at the egr in case they came loose or something.
