Putting an MX6 Gearbox in my 1.8L mx3 V6 engine possible?

Post by hamiltino »

Hey guys!,

The problem with my car is that it revs fine but has no acceleration, so i would assume its a transmission issue. I found a fully rebuilt MX6 gearbox near me and i am wondering if its possible to put it in my mx3 1.8 v6 engine without having done a kl-ze swap as of yet.

Is this possible to do this, can i get any feedback

Cheers.

Assuming that the mx-6 is a 93-97 and that it is a 2.5v6, then yes.

Hey, where are you located? I know of a 5spd out of an mx-3 that is available.

First off is it automatic or manual? If its auto its unknown to me, Manuals can be used from probes, 626, mx6 and mx3 only difference is gear ratios. However if its a manual and your having acceleration issues Ild find a worn clutch more likely than a bad transmission.

Exactly. It's a mechanical system so typically it'll work or it won't. A manual trans wont "slip" or cause acceleration issues.

Hey, its a manual transmission. My clutch doesn't slip though i.e. when i was engaging and disengaging the clutch on idle, it seemed to be fine. So i am not sure if its the clutch. My acceleration is so bad i can't go up any sort of steep gradient such as the street i am living on.

Do you think maybe changing the gear/transmission oil may help?

Ahh i see so a bad transmission should have no car movement? because i can reverse just fine and drive somewhat.

Typically a bad clutch will still grab a gear enough to move a car under low speed or low torque situations unless youve burnt it out completely. The best way to tell is to take the car out for a spin around 40-45 mph, put it in 5TH and give it full throttle. This will load up your clutch and if your rpms increase rapidly while your speed doesnt its a pretty good bet your clutch is nackered.

Yes and no. Would be more defined. Issues getting into gear (not to mistaken it with a slave issue), out of gear, staying in gear. Bad metal-on-metall noises. Grinding.
