Stainless Steel! FIGHT THAT RUST! (SS METRIC BOLT)

Post by Surgeonasst222 »

Well since I have been redoing the whole inside of my car I bee replacing all my bolts with stainless. I am sure many of you know 10mm x 1.25 thread is a b---- to find at the local places even with huge catalogs of metrics bolts these just are not there.

So I thought I would plug these guys as like I said everything is going stainless for me. It is going to be a bit expensive for me, but hell worth it!

There USA based and they have about everything on a easy to read site, I found that most of these fastener sites suck with pics and info. They do a nice job of both, even on a iPhone! I got most of the feedback on them through a google search on a motorcycle forum  they like the polished stuff. The in-polished is cheaper and I don't need my car to look all chromed out any way. ;)

http://www.mmsacc-stainless.com/metric/metric_prod.htm

That link should take you right to there metric section, again I am posting this cuz how hard it is to find stainless steel bolts 10mm and up with fine 1.25 threads to match the thread on our cars! Anything under 10mm seems like I can find what I want or dam close!

Hope it helps someone or inspires others!

OK on not so structural items - but someone here can tell us the tensile strength of SS vs grade xx "steel" bolts. Example - probably not a good idea for strut and suspension bolts.
1993 GS SE - "slow" (Stock) - SOLD
1993 GS SE - "fast" (Curved neck KLZE, OBX headers, custom 2.5" exhaust, KL36 ECU, Exedy Probe GT clutch, KL36 LSD - the real one, Lantis Type R lefthand halfshaft - unfortunately worth mentioning)- SOLD

1993 GS SE - acquired 4/28/2013, SOLD February 28, 2015

1985 RX-7 GSL-SE - SOLD
2003 VW GTI 1.8T
2009 Mazda5 Grand Touring

I looked this up already Gary ;) plus this post is for most of the inside bolts at the moment... Anyway to the dirt ;)

Stainless is a little bit stronger than normal steel it will stretch before it fractures.... ;)

I didn't post what I will use for structure things, titanium is the way to go!!!

Way stronger than stainless steel, but it is hell EXPENSIVE...

So if you really worried about stainless for your struts then use titanium ;) but don't take my word for it stainless is stronger and harder to work with than normal steel

your 100% right i use stainless nut washings and bolts to hold my chain on engines when im doing swaps... the only thing about stainless is if you dont use a lock washer and a nylon lock nut they get loose. but 100% stronger then regular steal.

thanks for the link! Im rust proffing my car to the max that I can so I wanted to use SS hardware on my rebuild rear suspension.. so this helpes a ton! thanks man

Just a FYI I called and ordered from this place today... IT WAS AMAZING!!!

They use Paypal as well that is nice! Also I got 10mm 1.25 thread and she told me they would ship out today! Also picked up some 10mm flange nuts to go on my OEM strut bar :)

I will be using this place a lot, everything that I can't find at my local true value, will be bought throuhgh these guys!

Seamless and painless and she went right in the inventory and measured the bolts for me to make 100% sure! I mean for bolts never to rust by the driver seat, 5.50 a bolt is well worth the cost!

Hope other people use these guys!

Just an FYI,

Stainless is stronger than unhardened steel, but cannot be hardened. That would make them comparable to Grade 2 Steel

Most torqued engine bolts are grade 5-8.

just be careful if you decide to use the bolts under the engine bay. They're pretty cool for valve covers and stuff, but if it needs to hold something important...
