slight lifter tap on cold start

Hey everyone from what I've heard its just something the b series motors do but i wanted some more input on a cold start ill get lifter tap sometimes for a few seconds sometimes for up to a minute my oil is full and i have absolutely no leaks so can anyone help thanks

which weight oil are you using? How often do you change oil?

Oil was changed about 1000 miles ago and i used penzoil 10w-30

Isn't that just normal? Especially overnight, the oil had drained down, and just need a few seconds at start up to be relubbed, especially as the mileage gets up there. It's not like it's a new car.

i have 40k on a rebuild though... :/ im gonna build a head for it anyway

If it really bothers you, get the head rebuilt, and make sure the HLA,s get replaced with new ones. Meanwhile you could switch to a good synthetic oil with a good oil additive (like ProLong or Z-Max), and your valve tap should disappear.

Well i believe when my head was rebuilt the previous owner said the valves were new and that's it so ill rebuild the head woth performance internals along with new hla's and what not

if you think its sticking before you do your next oil change put like $1 worth of diesel in your oil filler spot, let it run for 10-15minutes. drain the oil and do your oil change. diesel loosens up the lifters, or you can go to CT an get "lifter stuff" not sure the name of it. but I used diesel an it worked perfect for me
