my compression test resutls / are they good?

Post by bbunkerc397 »

Cylinder #1 = 200 psi
Cylinder #2 = 187 psi
Cylinder #3 = 200 psi
Cylinder #4 = 190 psi
Cylinder #5 = 195 psi
Cylinder #6 = 185 psi

Did it with a Mac Tool pressure gauge, pulled all spark plugs and fuel relays. Also I unplugged the 3 pin connector on the distributor and fuel rails. Please if anyone knows what is factory specs for KLZE are let me know? The K8 is 193psi I think the workshop manual says but KE have much higher compression, so it will be different.

Compression for a KLZE is supposed to be 225 psi, although your numbers are low, they are relatively even. That just means that the engine is starting to show its age, but it will soon be time for a rebuild. It might be a good idea to try adding a bit of oil down the cylinders to see if the numbers improve a bit.

Those are not bad numbers at all considering there is 200kms on it.

That's what I thought, but I will try with throttle open and see. I don't have a leak down tester but I can borrow one and try it as well.

The throttle position shouldn't matter. Compression takes place when the intake and exhaust valves are closed so nothing will change.

Historically, most compression test results are usually between 190 and 200, not often you'll see much over 200 in the 210 range, and I think maybe 1 person got 215 on theirs long ago.

Motor has some mileage on it, I wouldn't be worries or concerned about your compression results, they're a-ok to me.

Compression tests are always run with the throttle wide open to be sure enough air can enter the cylinder to be compressed.

To the OP: Your test results are good. Do nothing unless the engine is running bad or has no power.

Thanks for the help all, ya my car on startup puffs a bit of blue smoke on startup sometimes not all the time. I was thinkig piston rings or valve seals not sure though, was thinking to wait till the engine to hit like 400,000 or 500,000kms to rebuild it. My dad seems to think it is valve seals after showing him compression test results. My father also says you can also change them farily easy with removing the heads, is this true?
