brittxmx3 1993 GS V6

Post by brittxmx3 »

Let's start with the advert for the car:

link

Bargainned it down to $500 based on what I was planning on using it for:

BABE Rally

Then this:

http://www.24hoursoflemons.com

Both events I have done previously, here is a pic from one of my cars in the BABE Rally:

So dragged it 300 miles home:

My wife threw a party last night and one of our friends is an ex-professional racing driver. She saw my MX-3 and got excited as she used to race one. She has a load of parts lying around including a full set of wheels and uprated suspension components which she is giving away - Result!

She also has a moth-balled spec Miata which she cannot bear to part with

Having trouble finding time to work on the car, but started the HEI mod. Need to get some more electrical connectors, but finally found a home for the coil:

And modified the distributor cap.

Hopefully I will get this finished over the weekend.

Can't wait to see how this turns out. Good show on the free parts suppler. :P What are your plans for the distributor cap? I can't say I have seen anyone do anything like that.

The tower is so you can use an external coil... lots of people have done it.

Looks good, looks like you've done your research :2thumbsup:

HEI mod in, got a spark but not a good one, please see other post in V6 technical. In fact I was an unsociable git last night, my wife invited friends over for cards and I worked on the car. She told me it would be a women only affair, but husbands came, by which time I was really looking forward to wrenching on my car. Prioirities... ;-)

Looking forward to the weekend:

This:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/320854959623?ss ... 1497.l2649

and these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/180829249387?ss ... 1497.l2649

are sitting in my office.

Also wondering if I replaced a good MAF with a bad one, so the original one will go back on and I have just bought another spare which I found cheap.

The CAI had to come as the present air intake system is in the way of the HEI mod; well that's a good enough excuse for me anyway...

Intake Modified:

Image

Used a 2.5 inch pipe cutter to cut up the pipes. The 3 inch to 2.5 inch reducer was loose on the throttle body, so I cut the end off the old tube, put it on the throttle body and slid the reducer over the top. Slow work on my car, but the deadline is approaching so I need to get to work. Also have a broken down hearse on my driveway too, with the same deadline and needing a lot more work. So the main reason for this mod was not to get a cold air intake, but to move the old intake system away from the HEI mod. Looks at odds with the state of my engine bay!

correct me if im wrong, but, i was under the impression that the MAF had to be as close to horizontal as possible, like that blue on the pipes tho its very vibrant!

i'm pretty sure that's just for a VAF's because of the door flap sensor thingy, where as the MAF is a heated wire

I have mounted several ways & yes they (VAFs) work better when mounted horizontaly. that is some sweet looking intake piping though, the dirty engine bay doesn't do it justice lol
