Wiper arm color/finish

Post by Josh »

SO I am in a little bit of a debacle. Anyone know what type of finish wiper arms were originally? I need to repaint mine as they are basically metal in color, and was unsure weather to go with a mat, satin, or gloss black finish, I have even thought about plastidip.

Any thoughts on it? I think I am leaning more towards the satin but thought I would ask for some input.

Thanks!

I think it was a matte black. mine is kinda weathered looking but you can tell they weren't glossy.

You can't have reflective items on/around your dash so they weren't glossy. Plastidip would would perfect too.

I re-spray my wipers with Matt Black and it looks real mice, just like factory. I found scuffing them with scotch brite first works well to ensure good adhesion. The cloth follows the contours of the wipers well with no sandpaper scratch lines.

Dan's dead on about scotchbrite prep, and I personally used a matte black for mine as well. Since mine were only faded on the top, I used the bottom portion to color match. It's not too tough, black is black, and you should respray the entire thing anyways. :P

I think I used a gloss clear coat when I painted mine this past summer. You can see a couple of pictures on my worklog.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I think I may go with the satin finish. I have a nice size can. I think I am going to get some black plastidip to do the trim rings around the rear wiper.

It the plastidip turns out ok I may just do the wiper cowl as well...

The double whammy is, you can't help but clean it! Once you're done detailing, you're like, "damn that looks so good!" (In the garage)

Then, driving it around, your next response is just, "DAMN you vile dashboard!"
