SuperK's '93 ZE - "Bane"
Re: SuperK's '93 ZE - "Bane"
Well, the Transmission, I broke down and took it to a shop. I wasn't gutsy enough to get in the guts of it. If it was a junkyard engine, I wouldn't have a problem. but that is something special. I wish someone locally who knew transmissions could've walked me through it with me, but oh well.
Anyways, I decided on a complete rebuild since I'm in here. Might as well, take it slow and clean her up. So out she comes.
Look at all that color mismatch. It MaKeS Me ANNNGRYY! rED and GREEN and SILverrrr.

Re: SuperK's '93 ZE - "Bane"
Not really much of an update...
I took the transmission to the shop... two months ago, still haven't gotten it back. every time they order a part for it, it's the wrong one... and mazda dealership is outta stock. apparently got a bearing that needs to be replaced and input shaft seal.
Until then, I decided I would like to practice and learn some polishing

btw, phone books are the new engine stands, starting... now. Thought I'd let you guys know that.

This, is signature worthy!SuperK wrote:btw, phone books are the new engine stands, starting... now. Thought I'd let you guys know that.
This is my preferred polishing tool for the tight spaces of a manifold/other shiny toy:

My model is a little different, but the gist of it is a 1/2" belt sander. Mine is electric, and has around 12 variable speeds. The toughest part is trimming belts to fit, since I haven't taken the time to order some 1/2" ones.
It's a life saver though, I just need to get more belts, and then I'll finish up my Straightneck IM.

There's a problem with the trans? Didn't Gro do the ZX2 Gears/MSP LSD swap in it?

Re: SuperK's '93 ZE - "Bane"
Yes, the input shaft seal and a bearing I believe is bad, it leaked trans fluid all over the clutch, so I'm having a shop take care of it. I've never opened a transmission before and since this one is a special gearing/lsd, I don' twant to risk my inexperience goofing something up. I'll practice on a junkyard transmission first.
Re: SuperK's '93 ZE - "Bane"
Small update!
after a few months, I finally get my transmission back from the shop. Input shaft needed to be shimmed and new seal in, couple bearings pressed in, and some random screw/spring that was just chillin in the case that musta popped out. Seems to be a reoccuring trend with this car! So, I'm thinking it may be new flywheel and clutch next, thinking of going clutchmasters with both

Re: SuperK's '93 ZE - "Bane"
i'm not dead. I had some time to do a little wrenching, so I got half of the engine disassembled:
next week I'll work on the bottom end I think

Re: SuperK's '93 ZE - "Bane"
worked a couple hours on the engine today, removed oil pan and main bearing support, starting to remove each piston and clean them up. I got one piston cleaned:

Re: SuperK's '93 ZE - "Bane"
No clue, I had to rush to clean the piston before work so I didn't do any measuring. I'll prolly measure this or next week... First I want to spend some time learning these tools so I know I'm measuring things properly. I'm so noob, I know...
