Mi|<e - 94 GS BPT dyno tuned
Re: Mi|<e - 94 RS BPT dyno tuned
I suspect the oil pump death caused the initial wear and its just been getting worse over
time.
I had 10 cylinders in my GS today!
So the wear is on the skirts and the cylinder walls, I have yet to bust out the vernier and see
if the pistons are hooped. Piston #3 took the worst beating:
The crank bearings and the crank took no damage whatsoever. It is indeed made of invincible.
Bag and tag your junk, it makes life easier.
There is my turbo BP.

*shudder*
I had enough nightmares about one set of bearings looking like that...
Seems like you've been having a bad luck streak.... or just a set of opportunities disguised as bad luck

Re: Mi|<e - 94 RS BPT dyno tuned
This is from when the oil pump failed back almost two years ago, I
checked the main bearings which are fine but didn't catch the rod
bearings. Im going to shim my oil pump up a bit and live with higher
oil pressure. Heard 3 1/4" SS washers do the trick.

Re: Mi|<e - 94 RS BPT dyno tuned
Finally got some new supertech piston rings to re ring the pistons, thanks goes to
RS_OBD'oh_2 for these:
I had to borrow a piston ring gapping tool, its just a hand crank stone on a platform:
So went the tedious chore of gapping piston rings again... At least this time I know
enough that it went fairly smoothly. The bottom rings were all gapped how I wanted
them without having to grind which was nice.
Even though the pistons had some skirt scratching it came out rather nicely with
some sandpaper and elbow grease:
Installed the pistons:
And finally lubed the snot out of the rotating assembly pieces:
Pistons installed, yey.
Also have a new headgasket, look at the engine code on it:
All I need to do is clean up the engine bay how I want it and reassembly of the
engine will be soon. I have a tuning date in April so there is a deadline.
Also rumor has it that I might get myself a subaru...

Re: Mi|<e - 94 RS BPT dyno tuned
i missed your work logs so much, i forgot how many pictures you take =)
it's nice to see there was no damage too major that you couldn't fix.
is the BP26 head gasket any different? i guess it's made to handle boost
everyone's getting Subaru's lately XD

Re: Mi|<e - 94 RS BPT dyno tuned
Ive done more work on the car this weekend.
The worst part was lifting the block up into the transmission from below. When I do this
next im going to take out the entire engine on my engine hoist.
Looks pretty clean.
Had to pick up ARP moly lube for assembly, can't torque them as tight without it...
The entire valve cover was cleaned out and the oil traps were resealed.
Used the leftover moly on the cam lobes, no such thing as over lubing.
Called it a day here.
On a more crappy note the turbo exducer was ceramic and had a chipped fin so
the entire turbo is being rebuilt. New engine new turbo.
