Re: UK Sam's 1.6 Turbo MX-3 project
Congrats on the goodies - should look sweet when painted/coated & fitted
We have the gear knob law in Australia, too - my mate got a yellow sticker for it, meaning he had to pass it over the pitts (which people don't often have to do here), so had to fix every problem the car had & return heaps of stuff to stock parts to get it re-registered...

Re: UK Sam's 1.6 Turbo MX-3 project
Side skirts arrived today, have to say the quality of them is pretty good for a GRP item.
Dont know what the fit is like yet... probably not great,
but here is the offending part that I want to smooth over or cover up with a wing tip.

Re: UK Sam's 1.6 Turbo MX-3 project
haha fair play to you there fella
Had a little bit of spare time yesterday. So I decided to see what the fitment was like on these skirts, better than expected! so minimal prep hopefully...
Yeah Im hoping to work the skirts a little to get them looking like this though:
They are a really good fit actually and just hang there quite nicely for that photoshop.

Re: UK Sam's 1.6 Turbo MX-3 project
I think you should keep some part of the edge to match the lip on the GS front lip... if you mold it all the way in, yes you will match how low it is but it would be edge on front and smooth on the side... either way it will look good just details

The edge 'ledge' is going to be painted black or carbon wrapped not smoothed away

Re: UK Sam's 1.6 Turbo MX-3 project
Ok so I have cast my original concept shark fin in cardboard which I hoping to remake in aluminium. The shape is very similar to the euro mini side-skirts which I wanted to incorporate into these skirts. It also covers up that unnecessary vent and smooths in the straight edge left by the end of the skirt.
I am going to speak to the body shop in the new year about painting and fitting, should look something like this though

I thing the rear mug flaps would complement the shark fin detail very well. Just a thought, looking good as always.
We all want to be fast and look cool. Cool changes but fast never does.

Re: UK Sam's 1.6 Turbo MX-3 project
i think it goes a little high, i'd make it slimmer personally but it's still a great idea and i think it'll look good

Jurys still out on the flaps Bro, maybe once the spoiler is on, dont know if I can handle flaps AND a spoiler..
Evo_Spec thanks you had confirmed my suspicions that is was a little high.

Re: UK Sam's 1.6 Turbo MX-3 project
Pretty sure the stock ones are a little longer & (like Evospec said) slimmer than the cardboard model you've made here... Still, I'm majorly interested to see how this one comes up, should look sweet as, I think
P.s. I can try get some pics/measurements of my mini sides for you if you like - might make it a little easier to get the proportions to look right...?

Re: UK Sam's 1.6 Turbo MX-3 project
It's cool thanks Bro I have the mini sides I used to trace around to get that cardboard shape.
I will just adjust it accordingly before making the alu. piece. It had to be be big enough to cover up that vent, but im pretty sure the template can be shaved down a touch and still do what I want it to do
