It's probally been asked a million times over. I'm sorry

Post by Mr.mx-3 »

ok I have a question I have done all the swapping i can do aside from changing over the final drive gear. OK I have a 93 ze'ed mx3 today as I was driving well playing I accually took notice of where my tach was sitting at while running 90mph and it seems pretty high for what I've read here (the top speed being like 135 mph) at 90mph mine is running at 5500 rpm. My question is does this seem a little high for the gs trans or normal? Also what car can I get the final drive gear from so this thing will do what's on the speedo? I was once told I could get one out of an SHO Taurus will this get me the speed I want?

longest geared trans you can get is the KL 626 one. Longer 5th and 4.11 FD.

MX-6 is the same as the probe/MX-3 one, just a 4.11 FD.

MX-3/Probe one is the shortest with a 4.34 FD.

Nothing else really fits. You'd basically be a pioneer.

so what rpm are you running at 90 mph? I'm trying to figure out if someone has possiably tampered with this thing before I got it. It has been running like this since I've owned it.I had a 95 4cyl mx-6 and it ran a hell of alot lower in the rpm range than my 93 mx3 v6 which is buggin the crap out of me both are 5speed.

Dude, being a 5 speed has 0 to do with the ratios...

I don't drive 90 a lot, but I'm at around 3500 around 70, on a stock MX-3/probe transmission.

cool Thanks alot I was wondering if something may have gotten switched before I bought this. It just seamed a little high compairing to everything else I've had aside from my 89 4 speed festiva they are about the same.I was thinking 4cyl mx6 vs v6 mx3 in thiery the V6 in my thinking shouldn't run at higher rpm than a 4cyl because it shouldn't have to run at higher rpm's to make it's power like a 4cyl .But i guess this thinking was wrong in this case. Oh well I guess it's back to the drawing board and eventually I'll have to do the final drive swap. BTW this is for those who have done this how much of a pain in the a-- is this to do? When I bought my ZE I ordered paid for and was supposed to have gotten another trans with it but for some reason NOYAN USA decided not to ship it hell it took them about 4-5 months to send me just the damn motor called them many times with no answer or reply.

I'd have to look into the specifics but a mx6 4cyl 2nd gen has a even shorter gear. FSDE engine

Somebody has used it over here, it causes a big RPM drop. Something 4,000 to 3,300 if I remember correctly.
Just another Mx3 freak :)

WTF?!

Both my MX-3s run ~3,500 at 70, in 5th... Your numbers line up with my 4th gear.

Check to see if the VIN stamp on the back of your trans matches the one on your dash.

OH!!!!

Sorry guys, 4500 at 90MPH, 3500 around 70 MPH.

You speedometer doesn't know how big your tires are. Tire size affects how fast you're ACTUALLY going, but the speedo is calibrated for stock tires all the time.

Thats the point.. when someone asks what rpm I am sitting at when going a set speed.. I look at that set speed as if someone were to radar me, not what my speedometer is saying...

if you are changing gear ratios to get higher top speed or to try and lower rpms on the hwy for better gas milage.. you better under stand how tire size affects your speedometer, how much its off and compensate for it to get proper results...

70mph on your speedometer with a larger then factory tire is actually faster then 70mph...
