Back from the dead

Post by jayfressh »

Joined this site over 5 years ago and now I'm back.

Just picked up a 93 Anniversary Raspberry!

Needs a new transmission, I was told "transmission is slipping".

From the little I have researched I can use a Probe tranny which seems to be more readily available.

I'll be poking around here and asking questions, glad to be back and see the site has grown and still alive!

I'll post some pics when I get the car in my possession Tuesday.

Hey, glad to see a new(sorta) member :)

The Probe transmission has the exact same ratios and final drive as the MX-3 transmission, so it is indeed the same.

Well, thats assuming its an 5 speed.

If its an automatic, you cannot use the Probe transmission. You must use an MX-3 ATX.

If it is an MTX, the chances are the transmission is NOT slipping, but the clutch is. Your transmission will be fine.

Um, no, but there are like 10 members trying to do an MTX swap currently... or maybe just the number of threads and repeat questions make it feel like 10 members.

Since the transmission has not died yet and is "slipping" I'm going to go the rebuild route.

I believe this trans to be a F4A-EL(?), and it doesn't look too horrible to rebuild. <<< Famous last words

IF this was a car for me, which would be my last choice in the world to mod, I would probably go manual. BUT this is for a less fortunate relative who just needs a car to drive., that I'm kindly helping out.

I would much rather just rebuild the trans and spend my time working on my 4g63 swapped Conquest.

Are there any preferred rebuild kits?

Better question, are there any rebuild kits at all. I don't know.

Good luck bro. All I can say is take the time and money to install an aftermarket cooler. It will prevent you from doing this twice.
