2011 Kelowna - Food Planning

Post by Darcy »

Hey folks, Jacki reminded me that we need to get food planned. Previously, she did all the work, and no way that is fair and is going to happen again. What we are thinking of doing is having one group do dinner for one night for the group, so that everyone gets a turn. I think when we get to the site, we'll try to pick an ideal spot to have group dinners and go from there with the specifics. Lunches and breakfasts are on your own.
Dishes: You are responsible for doing the dishes/cleaning the cooking gear at least one other night.

Sites/Groups:
15-21 - Darcy & Whitney (Leaving 19th), Terry (Leaving 17th)
15-21 - Collin & Kailagh (only for the 20th), Cody & Jen
15-17 - Curt & Jen
16-22 - Anthony (Gone 18th-20th) & Jen +2 children
15-23 - James & Tracy +1 child
15-22 - Tyler & Bobby, Monte +1 child
15-22 - Jacki & Jesse, Stephen +2 children
15-22 - Duane (Leaving 19th)

Dinner Schedule:
15th Friday (17+4): C&K, C&J Dinner; Darcy Dishes; Smokies + more (Collin will coordinate with Cody & Jen)
16th Saturday: (19+6): Group Dinner in town ??
17th Sunday (16+6): J&T Dinner; A&J Dishes;
18th Monday (15+6): D&W Dinner; J-Team Dishes; Corn on the cob, baked potatoes, watermelon
19th Tuesday (14+6): J-Team Dinner; T&B,Monte Dishes;
20th Wednesday (15+6): T&B,Monte Dinner; C&K, C&J Dishes; Chicken Burgers & Salads
21st Thursday (11+6): A&J Dinner; J&T Dishes; Spagetti, garlic bread and Cesar Salad
22nd Friday (2+1): J&T Dinner and Dishes;

I've filled it in for now, but we can definitely make changes as we go if need be.

There will be a $4.99 surcharge for any changes made after July 8th.
Just kidding.

One issue I see is that the arrangement of people to cook for does not seem fair for everyone.
Since Tracy and I only have to cook for ourselves, we'd suggest helping out with one of the larger meals, like Saturday's meal with the J-Team. (essentially 27 mouths to feed). What are your thoughts?

Well one problem is that James (Duane and James) will not be coming since he will be working so this will mess it up abit. My brother Duane cannot afford this by himself either since he will be at his site alone and he just got back to work this last week so if we join him up with James and Tracy on the 21st? Are we not going out for a meal Saturday night? I talked with Tyler and if we go out for diner on Saturday since that is when everyone will be there we can just shuffle everyone down a day? Just a thought.

If we bump everyone down a day, the 21st for Duane and James would be on the day when hardly anyone is left. Whatever is group decided is fine with us. We will do Chicken burgers and salads for our night.

One thing to consider is food allergies. Bobby is allergic to peppers and onions. I'm not sure of anyone else. If we can accommodate those with allergies, that would be good. If not, just let us know and we'll figure something for that night. Thanks

What's everyone's thoughts on fairness? Are we grownups or what? hah. Obviously, one group making hot dogs is going to have a very small bill and are "getting away" with an easy job versus a group that may, say make Ribs and have a kickass awesome meal.

If people are not ok with this, I think the only way to do it is to gather your receipts, then at the end do a whole bunch of math and figure out who ate what, multiply that by how much you weigh, divide by the inverse of the current phase of the moon and then settle.

OR, we could just say "Hey punks, make a decent meal, and anyone has the right to eat as much as they wish, so you better have made enough for everyone!"

Personally, I'm ok with whatever as I trust people won't be too stingy and will make enough food. I've *tried* to make it so we have larger groups when there's more people, but unless we go back to what Jacki had going on in prior years, it will never be truly fair doing it this way.

I agree Darcy. Are we that poor that we have to quabble over a couple of bucks? At this years meet, I've got some ideas that will make it better for all of us and I'll ask what you all think and we'll vote on it.

I do believe that voting would count as a democracy. If you'd like a dictatorship, then, .....DO AS I SAY!!!!! :wink:

Well, all I can say is that I'm glad I got payment up front for that site :)
Do you want me to cancel the remaining days for that site? I can refund that to Tyler (minus the fees) if possible.
