Re: ResQRandy's 1.6L Project Ricer. .... JUST BOUGHT A BP :

Post by resqrandy »

BP is installed but it won't start. Correct wire harness, I'm sure the timing is good, coil is firing, getting spark. It turns n turns n turns no vroom. I'm hoping the it was on account for the bad gas that was in it. This gas is drained and I have to get more gas in the morning. Ether isn't getting a kick. All vacuum lines are in place, fuses are all good. Any other suggestions? It's late so I'm calling it quits for the night so as to not get a visit from the local pd hahaha.

Reversed fuel lines. Make sure that the one coming from the filter doesn't go in by the FPR. Line from the FPR returns to the tank.

Engine grounds.

Mechanical timing. Just double check it. Not a horrible job to pop off TB covers on a BP. Its also pretty easy to get the marks mixed up.

Timing is set #1 TDC with Crank Shaft, and Rear camshaft (intake) has the "I" indicator even with timing notch on TB backing plate, Front Cam shaft (exhaust) "E" indicator even with mark on TB backing plate. Spark wires in order according to Haynes manual. Rotor TDC with #1 and crank, Fuel line is coming from filter to main rail directly connected to the injectors. I think I have the VICS wires and associated vacuum lines correct. That was hard to decipher. The motor will occasionally sputter like it wants to start but never does. Occasionally kicks over and and stops for a sec then continues turning over. It seems like it should be something easy Im just not seeing it. :-/.

P.s.- The spark plugs are getting fuel and spark for sure still no vroom

I doubt this is it, but since you have fuel going in and its not firing try unplugging your injectors, and turn it over for a few seconds and see if it fires briefly. Then replug in your injectors and see if it starts. Even if that is the case it doesan't explain why the engine flooded. Also check compression just for fun, an engine needs fuel, spark, compression, and timing to fire. It seems like you ruled out the other ones.

I moved the discussion to another area and the problem was solved with a revamp on the timing. :) Thank you all for your help.

Ok so there I was driving in traffic being slow found a break down shift and punched it a little. I know its a little premature to do that with a new motor but I had to escape lol. My damn shift bolts came out LMFAO.. I knew there was something I forgot to tighten. The linkage is connected to the tranny but not to the bracket under the floor bpard. I started laughing so hard at my little oops I about lost it.

Um ok.. lol I am now at a loss for words. It's not missing a bolt. The rubber collar (for lack of a better term) won't stay in place. Dang it lol.. well i guess its gonna sit and cool off so I can get a better look at it cause the exhaust is directly under the shifted linkage. Hhmm. :/ . Soon to investigate.

One ghetto way to fix it is have someone lift up the shifter, once it comes though you can drill a small hole one each side and put a small nut and bolt on it to hold it up, works pretty well. I drove on it for close to a 8 months before I got my short shifter. I think everyone is in shock and laughs a bit after their shifter falls though the floor.

When I have a minute I'll check on my other computer. I have the guys name and Email who makes those shifter brackets. He wants $28 a piece I think.
