shifter fell down and cant get back up

Post by rodnet »

ok so im geting on the highway i reach down to shift to 5th gear and my shifter has dropped about six inches needless to say i was alarmed so i pulled the top off to take a look and it seems that the linkage has separated. i was wondering if anyone knows if there is a bolt that holds this part on, which i could not see when i jacked it up. or if its a broken weld which did not seem the case either heres some images to illustrate what im talking about
http://img860.imageshack.us/i/dscf0030s.jpg/
here it is held properly in place
http://img219.imageshack.us/i/dscf0027ar.jpg/

it still shifts fine but the only thing holding it up is the exhaust pipe :?
http://www.mx-3.com/manuals/showimg.php ... J2-054.gif here is the manual entry for the linking installation it seems to reference a bolt on the upper right.
any help or pointers would be much appreciated..

It's pretty easy to replace. If you have a 4 cyl it interchanges to the 90-94 protege 5 speed as well. Pretty easy to find. The bracket on the V6 shift bar is slightly different so you can't interchange between GS and RS.
