HELP!! No Reverse after fitting KLZE engine
HELP!! No Reverse after fitting KLZE engine
Just fitted a KLZE engine and gearbox that was out of another MX-3.
It was working fine in the other car.
Then the engine and gearbox was taken out, then the engine gearbox and clutch were seperated to be sold seperately. I bought them all, re-assembled and put them in my MX-3.
But now I have no reverse?
Any ideas as to what could be causing this? and how to fix it?

Re: HELP!! No Reverse after fitting KLZE engine
It doesn't go into gear, or the gear is empty?

Re: HELP!! No Reverse after fitting KLZE engine
This is on my car, daryl asked the question for me before I got home
It doesnt go into reverse, you can feel the edges of the gate but its like something is blocking it, it will not go into reverse gear at all, all other gears are ok but they do feel a little sloppy compared to the old box on the K8

Sounds like the shift linkage/bushings need to be tightened....

Re: HELP!! No Reverse after fitting KLZE engine
Did you install new bushings in your shifter linkage? Plastic one at the Dealership are really cheaply priced, like $5 bucks.

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

No because it was all fine on the original box, never had an issue with gears before the engine swap

Re: HELP!! No Reverse after fitting KLZE engine
Get under the car and have someone operate the shifter while you watch to see if it's hitting something. If youc an feel the detent when you push the shifter to the side, but it's not getting all the way there...something somewhere is interfering.
Did you use your shift linkage or the one from the donor car?

Yes, he used his own.
All he did was drop in the engine and gearbox out of my old MX-3 ZE.
His gearbox was working fine before the swap and so was mine.

Re: HELP!! No Reverse after fitting KLZE engine
problem solved today by accident
Today got to work and a huge puddle of oil appeared in under an hour under the car and it stunk so it was obvious it was gearbox oil so lunchtime jacked it up to look where it was coming from and found it was pissing out the reverse light switch, took it out, the copper washer was overtightened and split.
I put a new copper washer on and bingo reverse gear came back, looks like the switch is so close to the selector inside the gearbox just that extra almost 1mm further in and the switch blocks the reverse selector, big surprise as they are not usually engineered that tightly into the gearbox on most cars, but problem solved now
Now just tickover and missfire to sort
