HEI module
I want to do the HEI mod but I just wanted some suggestions as to which parts store brand would be the most reliable. They're all about the same price around $22 and the Pick-n-Pull price listing says 16.99 for an 'ignitor' plus $2 for admision so I'd rather get it new if I'm paying that much anyway. So for example Autozone's Duralast, NAPA Mileage Plus, O'Reillys BWD or Master Pro, etc.
If it weren't for physics and law enforcement, I'd be unstoppable!

Re: HEI module
They're all pretty much the same. You won't notice any difference between the brands.

Re: HEI module
Yeah I wouldn't expect any real performance difference, just makin sure I don't waste money on shoddy quality. Thanks Ryan.

Re: HEI module
Anyone ever run a DEI inferno 2 coil? Its an E-core style like the Blaster SS. I'm hesitant to get an MSD coil after I read that they're somehow designed to rip you off by requiring an external box if you want the full 'rated' output, otherwise its only putting out 30KV instead of 40-45.

Re: HEI module
Don't waste too much money on ignition system. You won't even see gains from anything more than NGK wires.
Unless you're revving up past 7 daily, it will never be a concern, but there's when you want to start converting to coil packs because the spark might start beelding between contacts in the distributor and the coil can't keep up either.

Re: HEI module
Ok with that being said will I see any improvements at all from the internal coil? Not necessarily peak power, but in overall drivability and reliability I guess. Also I've noticed recently that when cold it doesn't want to rev past 4k rpm and my midrange before the 4k vris stage is pretty weak even after its warmed up. Hence my motivation to run an HEI and external coil, thinking maybe the originals are a little tired. I already have the module but I'm gonna wait on the coil a little. Maybe I'll do my cap and rotor while I'm at it. Plug wires are already new.

Re: HEI module
Try cleaning the grounds for your engine (both sides), replace your plugs if you haven't and consider your alternator may be a little weak.

Re: HEI module
Cleaning the contacts in your disty cap and the rotor is a great idea too. I usually do it yearly. just use some 150 or so sandpaper.

Re: HEI module
Thanks for the tips I put in the HEI and it runs alot better cold but I think I'm probably due for a new cap & rotor anyway, so thats in my short term plans along with many other maintenance items that were probably neglected.
