Polished Aluminum or Black?

Post by mikeinaus »

so i bought a momo millenium steering wheel a couple weeks ago. i bought it used and i got a really good deal. the only problem with the wheel is the chrome on the ring around the horn button was peeling. ive managed to scrape it all off and im trying to decide between polishing the aluminum or just painting it black. if it makes a difference the chrome rings on the outside of the wheel were also removed before i bought it.

so whats everyones opinions?

car will be silver. if it ever gets painted it will goto a dark metallic grey.

i think im leaning more towards polishing it. i wanted to go with black but after wetsanding it with 400 grit its starting to look alot better.

Dark metallic grey would look good. Aluminum polished needs to be clear coated or it'll dull and you'll need to keep polishing it.

I used lacquer and it was fine. The spray cans of poly are kinda brownish after application where as lacquer is very clear.

now that i look at it i think my wheel might be a fake. the chrome ring on mine sticks out over the top center part of the wheel as well as on the 2 bottom corners. either way if its a fake its a good fake.

Looks good all polished up. Black would have looked kind of meh, especially surrounding the black leather/vinyl/whatever material it is for the horn.
