Magna flow mufflers ?
This is a general question to anyone who has upgraded their exhaust. I'm upgrading mine and was thinking of going with a magna flow universal polished stainless muffler (with tip), high flow cat and 14" tube style silencer. I will be getting all of these with 2.25" inlets and outlets so I can have a custom 2.25" exhaust piping made with mandrel bends and tig welded
Anyone have any personal objections or pro's for going with this setup?
Thanks
Chris

Re: Magna flow mufflers ?
If you like drone at highway speeds then go for the magnaflow. They get louder
as they age too, keep that in mind. Id get the largest resonator you can fit under
there if your cat is being removed - I fit an 18" with no problem.
If you can get a Dynomax muffler id suggest that over the Magnaflow, the Mag's
tend to get cut out after about 3 weeks of tolerating the noise. Just opinion though -
I like my exhaust to shut up.

Re: Magna flow mufflers ?
2.25" mandrell bent with a Highflow cat and a 14" resonator with the magnaflow would be perfect. although if you have no plans on running a turbo or forced induction setup 2" exhaust would be more than plenty, 2.25 is a bit large for a 1.8L NA set up. Magnaflow tends to be the best sounding in my opinion, and if your running a cat then it should not be that loud should be "perfect"
Edit: just make sure your cat is not a straight through design

Re: Magna flow mufflers ?
I'd advise you use a Vibrant SS ultra quite resonator. They're $99. If your upping to a 2.25 exhaust a stock cat would help more for a successful Etest.

Re: Magna flow mufflers ?
Thank you guys so much for all your input... My next question regards any potential dammage to the car due to the large exhaust? Many of you have sugested that 2.25" from the manafold back is quite large for my 1.6L and i was currious as to why you guys thought so? Was it just overkill on my part or is there some sort of potential issues that can occure with that size of exhaust?
Thanks again guys always apreciated
Chris

Re: Magna flow mufflers ?
O.K.; It all comes down to your manifold. are you running a stock manifold or custom header? if its not a properly designed header then you will lose power due to scavenging. With a properly designed header you could run a full 3" after the header and it would be fine its just LOUD AS HELL. What i would do is if you have run the 2.25 and plan on staying N/A and not upgrading the motor i would install a venture before the CAT. This will help restore a little power. the venture reduces the pipe diameter and then opens it back up again creating a natural suction from the exhaust pulling the exhaust out faster. it would also quiet it down just a touch. I ran a full 2.25 on my 1.6 for about a month or so before i installed my turbo it felt ok but was loud (backfired too). it would be really easy to throw on a B6T turbo mani and turbo with stock boost reliably pretty easy ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: Magna flow mufflers ?
The only way to damage your car with exhaust is to run an open HEAD. Then raw oxygen can attack the hot exhaust valves, burning them out. Even open header is okay.

It wont hurt the engine, he will just loose powerRyan wrote:The only way to damage your car with exhaust is to run an open HEAD. Then raw oxygen can attack the hot exhaust valves, burning them out. Even open header is okay.
"Even open header is okay"
only and only if its a properly tuned full length header would this be ok for any duration of time. If you go and run an ebay header or your stock header wide open you will eventually burn up a valve.

Ok so everythings done!
2.25" magnaflow high flow CAT
2.25" magnaflow (14" long) tube style resanator
2.25" magnaflow muffler (polished stainless steel with 4" tip)
2.25" stainless steel CAT back piping
And it sounds like the monster hiding beneath chuck norris' beard! it is very quiet and very deep sounding. There is no rasp at all and you cant even hear it at idel, you notice it when launching the car, but once again its still very deep and tuned style sound that omits from the muffler.
Total cost for everything $680.00 (custom 2.25" cat back exhaust)
