Mazda Mx-3: Future Classic?
Re: Mazda Mx-3: Future Classic?
I was thinking (ya beginners luck) if someone found another engine that was almost a bolt in to ours and of course an ECU/fuel management fix. I'm talking a 250-300+HP engine that we could up grade to. Of course we can spend big money strengthening and turboing a DE/ZE but that's usually a gamble at best. Imagine an engine that already has it all and one that will easily pass that damn Clean Air check.

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: Mazda Mx-3: Future Classic?
If it existed, it would be common knowledge and not some mystery motor....people come here all the time wanting to do a KLZE swap, but they actually don't even know what a KLZE is.ethand wrote:...which i'm guessin is why he's asking us...Nd4SpdSe wrote:Than it would of already been done...
There are plenty of 300hp motors that you can upgrade to, if you have the time and/or money...
The problem is that people on here want a 250/300hp motor for about $1000 that will bolt in like stock....
Look at toda, the MazdaSpeed3 makes about 268hp and is one of the most powerful factory FWD cars on the market here in 2010 for the 2011 model year. The Mx-3 (for us) is 15 years old to in terms of advancements in technology compared to the Speed3 at it's youngest...

oh ya... i forgot he'd said about the "bolt straight in" bit... Maybe there's one that fits, but requires little modding in terms of engine mounts, etc.?
good luck with it anyway...

Re: Mazda Mx-3: Future Classic?
Its sad but thats the beauty of civics, look at them today, you can take an older chasis civic, drop in an six from a tl/oddessy (atleast I thnk thats where there stealing them from) and you have an instant 250+hp civic with a 6. They have the popularity that companies will pick up these projects and make premade mounts and specialty ecus. However the mx-3 was just never that popular, and theres no way for any company to justify dropping that kind of money in R&D if they wont see a return, so sad as it is its on us to make it if we want it. Personally I think thats the beauty of our cars is that noone has had 15 of them all modded differently ( well maybe ryan but...) and thats what makes them enjoyable. When you see that one mx3 thats sitting just right and sounds like an enraged badger as it screams away at the next light you can say, hey that guy knows what hes doing as opposed to the kid that just ordered some prepackaged kit for his civic that when it breaks down he will have no clue why b/c he didnt have to put near as much effort into building and understanding his platform to make it work properly.

To bad they never clear the hood and they are so front heavy.
But still, very sick. My dad had a 04 TL with the j32 motor and that motor is sooooo smooth is puts the KL to shame. Would be amazing in a smaller car.

Re: Mazda Mx-3: Future Classic?
They all fit one way or another really. They put Honda motors into original Mini's, you just need the time, labor and skill to do all the work and wiring. With the Mx-3's engine bay, most transverse FWD motors will probably physically fit into the engine bay thanks to it fitting both 4cyl and V6 motors. The FE3T is a tall motor and that's been done in an mx-3. I'd be sure that the Ford/Mazda 3.0L V6 would fit in there, but that's not a big jump for the work and money at 220hp/192tq and still doesn't meet the 250+ that most are fantasizing.ethand wrote:oh ya... i forgot he'd said about the "bolt straight in" bit... Re: Mazda Mx-3: Future Classic?
So true, sleeper6... One of the major things I love about our cars is that they're almost custom just in stock condition!! They're uncommon, and that brings about a beauty in itself i rate... Plus, i'm kinda of the opinion that sure, power's nice, but I'd rather have stacks of style than bulk power... And style is something that modded Civics tend not to have much of IMHO.... although I kinda sorta dont mind hondas usually...
I think this was my fav part of that article hahaha:
I think this was my fav part of that article hahaha:
and I just want to ask "how?"... gotta love biased write ups hahahaah:something about a soda bottle having more liters than a Honda Civic.
IMHO, that car is possibly the ugliest civic i've ever seen... probs the most powerful, but just sayin...Even with all of the negativity, Honda guys always seem to find a way to level the playing field
even with a turbo??Nd4SpdSe wrote:but that's not a big jump for the work and money at 220hp/192tq and still doesn't meet the 250+ that most are fantasizing.

Re: Mazda Mx-3: Future Classic?
That's defeating the purpose. You can get that with a turbo KL or turbo BP easilly, even done with a turbo B6, so to spend the money on that and turbo it wouldn't in my books be worth while at all except to be different, at 5x the cost.ethand wrote:even with a turbo??Nd4SpdSe wrote:but that's not a big jump for the work and money at 220hp/192tq and still doesn't meet the 250+ that most are fantasizing.

Re: Mazda Mx-3: Future Classic?
ok it might not be a future classic but to have the only one in this world of copycats is pretty cool imo i mean you just stand out of the crowd and even though u might not be faster than anyone else you can sure look better

Re: Mazda Mx-3: Future Classic?
I think that it absolutly will become maybe not a classic car but it definitly will make its mark on the collectors market in the next 20-30 years.
