loss of power help
Hi Guys,
Simon here from Dublin, Ireland.
I have a mx3 1.8 ( there could be possibly different engine in it but not confirmed)
I have her as a track car and was out today and there is a pretty big problem
Problem is, I am coming down the straight, about 60/70 in 5th, heading for a hair pin turn, brake, change down to 2nd, turn in and when I put the foot back on the pedal, the power totally goes from the engine, after a second or two the engine seems to kick back into life.
I have used the search button and looked through the manual so could be one of many things? Any ideas? Heat temp sensor? Possibly over fueling?
I have a 4 inch straight through from the cat and the air cone filter replacing the orginal boxes.
Need to get this sorted quick
Thanks in advance

Re: loss of power help
I would think your engine is getting starved of fuel. Probably your gas tank has lost its baffling.
Did you try taking the hairpin in the opposite direction?

Re: loss of power help
possibly,
I believe it is actually over fueling? possibly a faulty heat sensor? would that sound at all right?
I will try to take it for a spin again later in a car park as its hard to test her else where?
Are there any common faults that spring to mind?
From reading on here it could be anything from the TPS,egr, dirty fuel lines,FPR? grr........ the link to check the codes doesnt seem the be working on here either

Re: loss of power help
You have to remember it's an old car, so you have to be patient with it.
The reason I think it's fuel tank related is because you're having the problem after a specific maneuver, not always, or randomly. Try making the hairpin in the opposite direction, and see what happens.

Re: loss of power help
Could it be fuel starvation? Are you running on a full or part-full tank?
(I've seen that happen on another 4cyl mx3)

She does the same in all corners to be honest.
Cout yea She was quite empty to be honest! could it be that simple though? she was doing it in other corners that were less the 180 degrees as well though?
Bit stumped at the minute
cheers for comments - keep em coming if possible

Re: loss of power help
It's not about how pen is the curve, but about the lateral G's you're pulling.
Fill her up, and see if the problem persists. If it goes away, replace your gas tank.

Re: loss of power help
could also be the fuel filter/screen inside the gas tank. i was having similar problems when low on fuel and that fixed it for me.
Re: loss of power help
thanks lads, mechanic seems to think could be dodgy HT leads/Dissy
I think Il have a look at the fuel filter anyway next week just to be sure
Il keep ya posted
