Post by Hammy »

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post...... Please move if necessary.

I broke my key in the door yesterday (my only key!! )

Had an auto locksmith out... couldn't get the key cut right. So am really stuck.. :crying:

Can anyone get me the key code based on VIN number? It's a UK car btw....

Thanks in Advance

Your local Mazda dealership should be able to do it with your VIN. bring your license and proof of ownership with you.

Why did you only have one key? I have like 5 for each car... a spare costs like $2.

I only got 1 when i bought the car... meant to get more cut... but never got round to it... plus they are like CN$120 from the dealers in the UK. So was kinda reluctant to get em...

I'm regretting that now!!!!!

I think the UK Mx3's had factory immbolizers. So yeah $100+ for a key sounds about right. Locksmiths who have the software though, can program the transponder chips for much cheaper than dealerships.

it depends on the year too... ive had the unfortunate similar problem of only having one key for the ignition ( door locks being diff keys) i lost it 2 weeks ago in the midst of taking the girlfriend out for dinner. alas the car remained there over night... called mazda to get a key cut from my vin and they COULD NOT DO IT..... whomever entered the keycode way back when.... didnt enter it right the code should be 6 digets long and mine was 7 or 8...

thus i had to pay 170+tax for a locksmith to come out take my ignition apart and rekey it.

not very nice when im only going to have the car for another 2 weeks at that point. but i had to do it otherwise i had no way to work/or my car gets towed....

Mine's 1996... i took the broken key to a local locksmiths... he destroyed the broken key even more... so i have to go the the main dealer and pay over the odds... Also they are now shut until Wednesday.
