You dont have more AG with IC, it look nice, but there is "-", becouse the air road is very long.
supercharger is not a turbo...
But I think that you know the diderences between them

compressing air makes it hotter... you lose almost half your efficiency up to around the 10 PSI mark...
Now with Moderator power!

Black '93 BP RS - wrecked, parted, scrapped.
Green GS - Sold.
Black GS - Summer DD/Race car - Fancy KLZE
Red GS - K8-ATX -> MTX-KLDE - Frakencar. Scrapped

just so you know, my brother has a supercharged cobalt ss and they come stock with a heat exchanger, which is basically a fancy way of saying small intercooler. just because its not a turbo doesnt mean the same basics dont apply. its still compressed air just like stated in the above post

Thanks for all the feedback mitmaks and Kuro88 :)

Today I decided to install my Jspec KL31 cams again after getting a replacement rear cam for the one that broke in half last year.
Image

Whilst I was at it I gave the head bolts another 20-30 degrees on the leaky rear head. I don't know if it will make much difference, but really nothing to lose.

I also noticed the timing belt was completely slack between the two cams and super tight at the crank. Think I must have skipped a tooth at some stage! Will be nice to get some free power by being in time :) These heads still look so young! Hardly any varnishing at all, I guess changing oil pretty often really keeps things clean. It's a real shame about the head gasket being leaky. Only coolant seeping out occasionally into the V, no mixing, so maybe I'll get away with it for a while.

I'll be finishing this off tomorrow hopefully. I'm hoping to go to a dyno day on the 22nd, so I thought I should get the higher lift cams in. I'll probably just be going NA with the VRIS gutted millenia manifold. I'd like to know where I am before putting the ITBs or SC on the rollers.

A New Chapter

Post by marcdh »

I've finally done what's always been on my mind TURBO :D and so far I am absolutely loving it.

Here's the build in a very condensed form!

First things first... bay respray, unused bolt holes filled in, fuse box tucked, and a massive hole welded in with new metal:

Image

Turbo arrives and instantly gets taken apart:
Image
Image
Image

eBay KLDE is cleaned up and water pump replaced:
Image
Image
Image

manual TBT welded up:
Image

Turbo pipes test fitted:
Image

Up pipe extended to clear frame rails:
Image

Downpipe modded to tuck in and up more:
Image

Wastegate flange chopped off and replaced with 41mm TiAL f41 WG flange:
Image

Cross member tucked as high as possible and rewelded:
Image

RS200 radiator bought, and adjusted for mx3 fitment (opposite corner outlets reTigged on, holes blanked, custom mounts) and pressure tested:
Image
Image

Twinpass intercooler with super short IC piping as the shorter radiator allowed them to pass up the side of it, with new bracked welded on:
Image

Why use silicone couplers when you can tig :D Last weeks weld a bit lame, weld above getting better :
Image

Welded on plate for IAT sensor and blow of valve port:
Image

All in :) Distributor gone:
Image

Interior reassembed now with megassquirt standalone setup:
Image

Turbo piping:
Image

Powersteering pump relocated, goodbye fugly. Custom engine mount. Also replaced header tank, with new pressure cap inline:
Image

Overall shot:
Image

Spec/work list:
KLDE
Megasquirt Standalone and coilpacks
TiAL 41mm wastegate 5/6psi spring
Turbosmart BOV
eBay t3t4 turbo, polished, with restrictor and inline filter - so far so good! All AN feed and return
Custom alloy raditator
Twinpass IC
Super short IC piping
Bay Resprayed and smooth off unused holes
Minor wire tuck
Power Steering relocation
Turbo blanket
All hotpipes wrapped and sprayed with silicone high temp coating
Custom timing belt side engine mount
Millenia S injectors
Walbro 255

So that concluded this update! Videos will follow :)

Looks so badass, glad to see you are doing things the right way with the fabbing and such.. I like the turbo inlet area with the filter, looks cool. I also like your rad and IC setup, looks super clean.

Hows it running? That old waterpump area looked effin nasty
