DIY Inverted hood Scoop

Post by Conrad17 »

IT CAN BE DONE!!!
if your like me, and you love that clean looking inverted hood scoop but dont wanna drop the 500$ to get one, i did it myself and it cost me about 50$, and it works great, it didnt shed much weight but the heat evac is awesome!
i wanted to take step by step pics but failed at that, but ive got pics on how far i am and the final when its done.

ill do my best and start puting up some pics today

the desired is this
Image

i started off by masking out the shape, i found an overhead picture of the scoop and just eyeballed it, be warned though, the webbing on the underside of the hood limits what you can do, it also will kinda of show you the shape.
i taped of my design using electrical tape, and cut out the "V" with a cut off wheel. You'll only end up cutting three sides.
i then folded that v down to the brace below it, which gives you about a 2 inch opening. i tacked the "V" to the bracing.
i then cut the lip back near the opening, which ended up giving me a 3 inch opening total, and brings the opening right over the exhaust.
this is where i got stupid, i then decided to use sheet steel and tack in pieces onto the walls of the scoop, but you really dont need to do this, instead just use Fiberglass, i did this on top of the steel, its super easy, its bout 15$ for a bondo fiberglass kit, and it dries in like 3 hours. after it dries up the fun begins, bondo bondo bondo. Your gonna need a sanding block badly. its tedious but ive been goin at it slowly just workin away at it every once and awhile, and im almost done, you could realistically finish it with primer in about 3 days.
like i said ill get pics as soon as i can and help explain it more, just wanted to share my lil project.
its not too hard, im 17 and figured it out myself lol
good luck ask me any questions if yuh got em

oooooohhhhhhhh lookin GOOOOD!!! thats a surprisingly very neat job, and looks sweet i think! I'm guessin you'll put in some sort of mesh in the gap eventually?
great work, and love the creativity... you thinkin of using the rest of your fibreglass kit to do the angry eyes mod (or are they actual eyelids you have there? cant tell if its duct tape or eyelids from these pics!)
oh, and evo_spec, its called an inverted inverted hood scoop heheheheh ;)

I vote "PLEASE, NO!" on positive pressure scoops. Hood scoops are only cool under two conditions which must occur at the same time:

#1 FUNCTIONAL
#2 TMIC

It will be neither of these for us.
Now with Moderator power!
