Mini Sideskirts Install

Post by Letters11 »

I have my mini sides that im trying to install on my 4cyl. The holes line up perfect but the mounting holes on the underbody of the car have square/rectangle black pieces of plastic in them. If i take them out they are just open holes. I am wondering what i need to get to mount the skirts. I couldnt get a picture due to it being dark but Ive created one of what the plastic looks like. Any suggestions on hardware to buy would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Image

You can order the special anchors that go in those holes. I was given enough to install mine by a generous member who got them from a dealership.

Or you can always use crazy glue...

Seriously though, the plastic anchors are the way to go. If everything else fails, you can find them at your local auto parts store, in the "Help" section (sometimes labelled "Accessories").

Ok great, I will be going to the auto parts store tomorrow. Also home depot and lowes had the same hardware that I needed to mount the rear mudflaps so maybe they will have these as well. Also, how important is the double sided tape on the inside edges of the sides? The previous owner had it on there but it obviously doesnt stick anymore. Thanks for all the replies.

This is another excellent option but only if you definitely never want to remove them ever again.

This stuff will stick forEVER. The plastick will break before the tape lets go.

I've been using that tape for years. You can buy it at Wal Mart, or at any auto parts store. It's rated at 1 Lb/sq in. It's very strong, but at the same time, it's made out of a very soft material, and it's about 1mm thick, so removing it is just a matter of sliding a thin blade through it, and then cleaning up. Not as easy as with normal 2 sided tape, but I've done it several times, and it works perfectly.

it never worked for my CF eyelids, it would hold on enough so that it wouldn't fly off, but it kept separating both times i applied it

You need to clean the surfaces thoroughly with some pure isopropyl alcohol. You can use the 91% rubbing alcohol, but, in my experience, the 70% one doesn't work. Use plenty of it, and plenty of paper towels, until you're absolutely sure the surfaces are clean, and it will stick perfectly.

I have finally mounted my mini sides by a little improvising. The procedure is as follows.

1. First I cut the middle black piece on the mounting tabs on the underside of the body so there is an open rectangle (black plastic piece).

2. Took a sharp screw/nail/drill bit and poked a hole up into the top side of the black piece as close to center as possible.

3. I got license plate screws and brackets from lowes.

4. I took a mini sledge/hammer and hit these nylon brackets into the openings of the black plastic pieces. I Put them in as if the middle black piece was still there and the slot/opening on the nylon bracket would go around the black piece.

5. I screwed the screws into the brackets, holding up my side skirts. The 2 holes on the rear of the vehicle are self explanatory and you can use basically anything on those.

Ive been driving for 2 days with them on like this with no issues. I havent used any tape because i plan on taking them off in the spring and having the car painted. I did not take pictures along the way bc it was too dark.

I don't have a part number or a price. I would guess in the neighborhood of a dollar a piece...give or take.

If you call your dealer and explain that it's a UK part they should be able to find a number...or just call a UK dealership. It's only a $25 phone call.
