I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

That looks like a ghetto way to do it. Wouldn't recommend. Best to do it right and take of the timing belt.

My car started to make a similar noise, only not so loud.
i can hear it with the windows down and rolling, but when parked and the hood open, i hear it lower than urs.
I went to pick up my dipdtick just now , and i went dead... the engine is oilless !!
This was all my fault, i trusted my recent head gasket change would solve the oil burning, it shows it did not solve anything... and now i have somekind of a knock ...
Allright, im gonna get an oil cannister and fill my car up, if the noise remains, what have i ruined ?

helpy helpy, bj ten dolla :D

Being low on oil makes your lifters noisy. Fill it up and it should go away.

First of all...least helpful post in memory. -->

If you ran it for a while with very low oil level it's likely that most of the articulating parts got some extra wear as a result. But honestly...I had this happen as well and on a well made engine it's not the end of the world. I lost my oil drain plug once on a 83 civic I had and drove it 20km before I knew there was a problem. that car went another 50,000km after that.

Fill it up, keep an eye on things and if it starts to burn oil excessively in the next bit you'll have your answer.
