Turbo collector pipes..... Scarred?

Post by DiaMagus »

A friend and I heated up my collector pipe that goes up to the t3 flange because it was so far off from the headers... I just noticed where he heated it up its like burnt it looks like a crap weld like it boiled the stainless. .. . . am I going to have to grind it and get it rewelded I really trust the guy and im just surprised by this.. Do you think it will be fine? Or is the tensile ruined and when the exhaust heats up its going to blow out?

Chances are it's ruined.

It was hot enough to bend. It obviously bubbled my dad says it will be fine I'm going to ask the guy- Man that blows. My instinct says it will be fine but not in the long run :P

It was heated with propane

take a pic and post it. It may be brittle now. Being the collector, it may be a bad thing. Make sure to buy the "hump hose" couplers to take stress off the mani.

That's the reason why SS headers are NEVER used for endurance races. They just crack after a few hours of continuous hard driving. SS can be used for the cat back, but for the header, my personal choice is carbon steel.

Anything is possible with a decent welder and some know-how... As I'm sure you have realized, every KL turbo is custom. Almost everything you buy to install the kit has to be re-shaped, re-bent, or even re-cut to get proper fitment. No system is alike, unless you intentionally follow/mimic someone else's build.

Keep at it though, and who knows, you may do something that no one else has done yet!
