poor idle and stumble on accelleration after many new parts

Hi,
I've been looking at this forum for quite a while trying to figure out driveability problems on my daughter's car (94 mx3 1.6L DOHC auto). It has a hiccup at idle, where the ignition seems to drop out occasionally, and stumbles upon initial acceleration. I did the HEI mod, but that didn't solve it. I put in a new ECU, no joy. new plugs, tested ign wires, pulled codes, nothing. This is where it gets interesting -
I bought a used distributor and installed it (took out the HEI mod) - voila! runs great!... for a few hours. Now it is back to its same old self.
So any ideas? Demonic possession?

I have the v6 and had a problem similar to it, although I had a code of a water temp sensor, also from time to time it had trouble starting.
