Re: why do KL31/KL36's run rich?
Running a complete longneck ZE with KL36 ECU / JE50 VAF / NEW NTK O2's : no rich issues at all.
Ebay's fakes headers (OBX/HOTSHOTS) do not have right O2 bungs location.Relocate them to make the sensors read all 3 cylinders per bank.

Are you saying hotshots have the incorrect location? Or the hotshot knock offs.JM1EC-V6 wrote:Running a complete longneck ZE with KL36 ECU / JE50 VAF / NEW NTK O2's : no rich issues at all.

Also, Ralph, what kinda mileage are you getting per tank?

Ha I know what you're talking about! I was just looking at my SS headers and the O2 bungs are placed in such a spot where they read 1 cylinder more than the rest.JM1EC-V6 wrote:Running a complete longneck ZE with KL36 ECU / JE50 VAF / NEW NTK O2's : no rich issues at all.

Re: why do KL31/KL36's run rich?
Good info about the O2 locations on the ebay headers. Thanks. When I get a set that's the first thing I'm doing

Re: why do KL31/KL36's run rich?
I've been wondering about the O2 sensor location on headers and if the fact it isn't reading all three cyls having any negative effect. As far as O2 sensors go are we using the same ones they use in Japan???? Correct me if I'm wrong but the ZE with the KL31 or 36 ECU only runs rich once the RPMs climb and the higher they go the richer the engine runs? During my Etest I had the guy run the engine at 2300rpm vise 2500rpm (the allowable range is 2250 to 2700). I passed at 2300 but would not of at 2500. Again does anyone have info on Jap O2 sensor pn's

Re: why do KL31/KL36's run rich?
Got a question. Today I swaped my engine harness to a OBD1 and checked all wiring and re-loomed the entire harness to install my KL31 ECU, it didn't start but cracks over like crazy. NO engine light on my cluster and my diagnostic computer shows no codes of any sort. Do I need to re-pin the ECU harness? Is their anything I shoud know? any help would be appreciated.

Re: why do KL31/KL36's run rich?
Are you still using your 96 disty? The wiring on the harness will be different, you'll have to use the same year disty as the harness.bbunkerc397 wrote:Got a question. Ya I told him the 96 doesn't have a cam sensor so he needs to use a 92-93 disty for sure.

Re: why do KL31/KL36's run rich?
I have a 1995 mx3 with the newer disty but used an older disty by swapping two wires on the 3 pin connector.
You could get a 1993 disty or try swapping the two wires. It might work and you don't have to cut the wires, they can be removed from the connector by taking a few things off it and pressing on the release tabs. It's hard to explain but don't hack your wiring loom lol.

No air / fuel ratio wideband gauge on car, but no smoke, smell, or plug fouling like a rich car.marcdh wrote:Can we see a video of your AFRs at WOT?JM1EC-V6 wrote:Running a complete longneck ZE with KL36 ECU / JE50 VAF / NEW NTK O2's : no rich issues at all.

Can'T remember how much mileage i'm doing with a full tank since the car is stored now (bodyshop), i can't tell you.
Will be running a 4.105:1 Mx-6 V6 final drive ratio this year too, this will make a difference for sure in MPG's.
