Re: Roof Interior removal
- Take off the A-Pillar plastic carefully.. Pull on em
- Pull down the door rubber seals on the insides of the door jams on the roof area
- Pull the top of the B-Pillar plastic behind seat.. just have to pull the top back enough so headliner is free, be careful!
- Open hatch and pull down the rubber seal trim on the roof area
- Remove the rear view mirror and dome light (small knife to open the plastic cap on the mirror and dome light cover) you can pull the dome light straight down and it will come out, there should be 1 or 2 plugs (depends on sunroof), unplug em
If you have a sun roof:
- Open the sunroof and slide it back just slightly
- Pull the cloth/rubber ring from around the inside of the sunroof.
- There will be small tabs there on the sunroof area, pull them back with your fingers carefully so they are facing straight up
- The sunroof headliner part is held on with small plastic nubs that are pressed into the metal, gently pull down on the liner from the front corners and get it off.
Once you get to this point the headliner should become movable, go ahead and maneuver it towards the back of the car and pull outa the hatch.
I am pulling this from memory, don't think I missed anything

Re: Roof Interior removal
I don't recommend dying it... better off covering it with some fabric...

Yeah, but its definitely alot easier with 2 people....
Felt is better, and easier to work with imo. the heavy vinyl stuff with backing will sag after a couple months of summer heat.... Or it did for me anyway

Re: Roof Interior removal
how does the structure of the roof work, like is it some kind of board with felt on it or is the felt all there is. Would there be potential to remove the felt all together in order to install the vinyl with some kind of contact cement and reduce chance of saggage...hah, saggage.

Re: Roof Interior removal
The headliner is basically a cardboard type material on the back with a thin foam layer and the fabric on the bottom. I redid mine with black suede and just went over top of the existing fabric. I would suggest you do the same. The only issue ran into was the ring around the sunroof opening did not wanna go on very well as there was added bulk to the edged of the headliner.. it was made to fit snug already so it was a tight squeezeSteeleMX3 wrote:how does the structure of the roof work, like is it some kind of board with felt on it or is the felt all there is. Re: Roof Interior removal
hmmm, I'll have to tackle that issue when it arises during install. thanks for the tip, I think I'll be good for putting the vinyl on as long as it's on with some strong shite.
p.s. so your sunroof does close though right?
cheers

Re: Roof Interior removal
If I had to change the motor for my sunroof out, is this the way I would have to do it?

Re: Roof Interior removal
ya I had to swap out my sunroof+motor assm last fall as some thief decieded it was a good way in -_- oh and you have to slide the headliner forward about 1/2in to get the plastic tabs to come out without breaking them if i remember right as well.
