Evapo-Rust rust remover neat product

Post by Mi|<E »

So I decided to try this Evapo-Rust soak that claims to remove rust at a
chemical level with no chemicals or fumes or anything nasty.

Before (these are sub frame bolts exposed to years of the elements under the front):

Let soak 24h:

Rinse off and voila:

It works really well on our old rusty bolts that are hard to replace. Treat these
with a rust inhibitor/seal afterwards for many years of rust free hardware.
It costs about 10 bucks/liter in Canada, prob way less in the states.

What is the active ingredient?

Hardcore DIY guys use phosphoric acid... its about $4/L and is concentrated enough to eat the metal...

The stuff sure looks like phosphoric acid, which is both cheap and plentiful. It's pretty harmless to skin and eyes as well.

could you keep on using it? like keep it in that jar and keep throwing bolts in here and there when you need to? or is it a one time use thing?

I used to work for a company that drills water wells in rural communities desiging water purification equipment and we used to sell pure Sodium HypoChlorite powder to our customers for removal of rust stains for people with high iron content in their water.

It works extremely well but is very very bad for you. Gloves and face masks. I doubt that's what this is, but man that stuff is awesome.
