clutch differences

Post by MapaX5 »

ok, so i'm trying to figure out what clutch to get for my car, and have been doing some research.
Now, i've found clutches for the 92-93 and then for the 94-96...
are these any different? other than clamping force, ofcourse.
what would i need to replace on my 94 to put in a 93 clutch?
it's an RS and has nothing other than a few bolt ons.
i know it's a typical swap on the miata community to get a +94 clutch and install it on a -93...however, we need to swap in the flywheel as well.
on the downside, the new flywheel/clutch combo are heavier, so they make the engine slower.
another commong swap is to go from a +94 assbly to a 90-93 because they are lighter, and use an aftermarket clutch to compensate for the lower clamping force and still get the lighter flywheel/clutch combo.

Now, i know all 4cyl trannies are supposed to be the same, right?
so i should be able to use a 92 clutch on my 94RS?
Do i need the flywheel?
they have a different part number. so that's why i ask.
Also, what's the weigh on a 92 flywheel and a 94? both RS, ofcourse.

Yall can see where i'm going with this, right?

if its a different part number then there is some sort of difference, from my experience it may not be a lot of diffference but I stick with what I know. I have a escort gt clutch in the mx-3 gs, its the same part number as listed for the gs. Its a stage 1 clutch and fit no problems at all.
