CAN SOMEONE HELP PLEASE, IM NEW TO THIS MX3 STUFF

Post by Countryboy »

Hey i"m new to this whole import thing. i just got a 1994 Mx3 1.9V6 5 speed car and im going to build it for a nice street car. My question for y"all is...Im curious if the brakes ( spindles, calipers, rotors, etc) work from the MX6. Ive seen MX3's with five bolt wheels and it just looks proper. I have a scrapyard five min away from my house that has some MX6's and Probes in it so i need to know what parts to use. Thanks for any help. If u have any information on the MX6 brake swap u can email i would greatly appreciate it. *(born2_run@hotmail.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)* i hope its just a bolt on deal, but im wondering if the axles are the same. thanks alot yall 8)

I'm curious where you saw a 5 bolt MX-3.....

Lots of us would kill for that.

Probe stuff is totally different. Different stance on that car, so nothing will line up right. you might be able to get it all to fit, but you'll never be able to align it. No to mention you'll need custom axles.

now now, Ryan, that is not entirely true.
there is a thread called "big brake kit on the cheap" or something like that. the underpinnings of most FWD mazda cars are the same, so we get the joy of upgrading the spindles, and you will be able to bolt up the new brakes.
you will need the rotors, calipers, the whole spindle assembly (including the hubs) and brake lines, i think.
check the other thread for more details.

MapaX5, I don't think you're understanding.

This person wants to bolt probe mx6 (5 bolt) hubs in.

If we could do that, everyone would have a long long time ago.

I believe, or rather I am told by something in the back of my brain:
-the ball joints are different and the control arms are not the same.
-The struts are different, but this has been overcome
-the spindles are guaranteed different diameters and size/length
-the hubs are made for different sized/length axles
-If the steering knuckle isn't the same, you'll never be able to align it.

In the link you gave, that guy did a semi-sketch job of pushing his caliper out, and drilling into a bigger rotor with the same offset dimensions. He also had plans to sell the kit, so never revealed what the rotor was from, so no one can really do it without knowing the rotor...

if you want 5 lug its easy go find the parts off a lantis and swap the hubs. It will cost you more than the aesthetic of having 5 lugs on this car is worth.

Probe/MX-6 stuff is completely different. However I am about 97% sure that the 5 bolt BJ (95-03 Protege) front hubs will slide right onto the EC (MX-3) spindle. I am absolutely certian of it. It's the rears that are the problem. The BJ chassis with rear drums uses the same spindle and hub as the MX-3 RS however the 5 bolt hubs only come on the proteges with rear disk brakes...which is a different spindle than the GS. I think that if someone tried it would fit..but no one ever has that I know of. Buy a rear hub from an 03' Protege with rear disk brakes and see if it will fit on your MX-3's rear spindle. There's a good chance that it will but we dont' know for sure.

my apologies, i just re-read the thread and realized what was going on.
what's the big deal w the 5-lug thing anyways? adding more unsprung weigh to a car is never a good idea. and it's not like we're ever gonna generate enough torque to snap all our nuts off...

it creates a vastly wider selection of wheel options than 4x100 hubs.

? How :?:

No thanks guys, I've got no problems with 4 x 100, means I need to buy 4 less lugs and it takes me that much less time to throw 'em on ;D
