Fuel Ecomomy issues

Post by kast2L »

Alright fellas for whatever reason im getting absolutely abysmal fuel economy. Like a little over 250 miles before i have to fill up. New o2 sensors, new fuel filter, new plugs, wires, about to do the cap and rotor soon (have the parts just haven't installed them), PCV valve. So I honestly dont know where to begin. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Gas tank leak? Have you confirmed you're not running rich? Maybe it's your driving style? Do you have a CEL?

that's what average GS with k8 gets, sounds fine to me. It's no civic as far as mpg's go. You have to remember our tank is not that big either.

Ya, that's a respectable number if you're doing that on about 10 US gallons which is what, 25mpg? It could be better but it depends on what you've got. That's pretty much what my K8 did, but my ZE got me 30+

Check your tire pressure (~35psi), tire condition, any loose bad steering components, wheel alignment (pulling to 1 side or the other while driving straight) bad coolant temp sensor for the computer will throw off air/fuel mix as well, engine condition tranmission oil condition. Driving habits, jack rabbit starts etc. Stop and go traffic, if you have lots of lights in your daily trip. All these add up. Synthethics do help with mileage I am starting to become a firm believer in amsoil I swapped the engine and tranny oils in my wifes suv for amsoil and picked up another 3 mpg.

Yeah it's not TOO bad, and there are a bunch of little things that make a difference when they add up, like everyone said. But I'm able to get around 500km a tank on my K8.

will do! I just thought it was a bit strange i was getting just a lil over 250 mpg...nd4spdse cause ima have to put the klze in sooner than i thought then for better mpg! also is the water pump for the k8 16mm or 32? I'm pretty sure its 16 but confirmation on this would be great, thanks.

My car is in very good mechanical shape not to sure about my 02 sensors have not tested those as of yet but I get 400 km/tank, thats 250 miles/tank, if I am not using my remote starter, if I use the remote start twice a day that drops to nearly 300 km/tank. I have a 96 v6 thats obd2 so I am gonna be hunting around for a new set of 02 sensors soon.
