Hi,
Looks like Il'll be needing a left side axle shaft soon. Outer boot is ripped, just a matter of time.
My car is a Manual trans. 96 1.6L B6, without ABS.
I live in Burlington, Ontario.
Closer the better.
Thanks,
[WTB] Left side axle shaft

Re: [WTB] Left side axle shaft
axles are easy to rebuild....
Remove the broken boot, clean the axle using rags and solevents, and reinstall a new boot. Good as new. If it doesn't click or anything yet, I'd just rebuild it.
then again, if you can find one local, it might be worth your time.
Also, we need to know if you're auto or manual.

I've thought of doing the repair. There used to be a split boot repair kit. Surfed a bit and called around. No dice.
Are the held together at the tripod joint by a snap ring? Are new boots readily available?
Thanks for the feedback!

Re: [WTB] Left side axle shaft
Any local parts store should carry CV boots. Should be less than $30.
if the clips are OEM, they're reusable. If not, a hose clamp will work.
Axles are held in transmission by C clip. Can be a pain to get out, but it seems to be hit and miss.

Re: [WTB] Left side axle shaft
Just replace whole axle. My axle boot wasn't torn but with ~100K on original axle it started clicking. They do wear out even if boot is intact. Mileage breaks things. I just picked up axle from Napa and gave them old one as a core.

How much was NAPA?mitmaks wrote:Just replace whole axle. My axle boot wasn't torn but with ~100K on original axle it started clicking. They do wear out even if boot is intact. Mileage breaks things. I just picked up axle from Napa and gave them old one as a core.
Canadian Tire quoted $89.95 after I return the old core.
Oh, '68 Charger R/T 440. Real nice! My favorite Mopar muscle car. Not the HEMI, not the '69 or '70, but the '68 440 R/T.

Re: [WTB] Left side axle shaft
One of my CV boots was cracked after 100k.
When I had the oil changed, I also changed the both side outer CV boots.
(new clamps, cleaning them, re-grease them)
I got everything done under $20 dollars...or less (can't remember).
Right now, it's 135K...it's still good and quiet, but one of my inner boots
is already cracked. I am gonna change that boot as well when I change the
ball-joint.
