Not sure if "gaining power" can really be had from removing these things, but I removed both from my mx-3 for several reasons:

- Cleans up / less cluttered engine bay
- Less parts to maintain / less things to break
- Some weight loss
- I never used the AC since the day I bought the car.
- My mx-3 is not my daily driver

The answer is yes, it should yield some power gain, but it will be tiny. Our cars are power assist power steering so that we get some steering feel and it is not as much of a drag on the crank. AC does not take from your power unless you are running it, so taking it off saves weight, but not power.
I would not remove it if you are looking to go faster in a red light drag. I would if you are making a track car and have another dailey driver.
