Also, make sure you have the ball joint seated with the bolt properly. The ball joint has a groove in the shaft that the bolt should slide by to hold it in place. If it is not aligned properly you might get a pop as it moves around.

I don't think there's any extra space for the bolt to be put in any other way, it's made to be pretty snug. On a side note however, I find it scary that a small bolt like that is the only thing holding the ball joint in the knuckle

How do you check the swaybar end links?

Pull up and down firmly. Any sort of movement=bad. Make sure they aren't loaded. (both tires on level ground, or both in the air)
