B55 1.5 in a 95 MX-3

Post by jkbreazeale »

I've used the search feature and have found minimal information on this engine that somebody has stuck in my wife's car. Is the same amount of oil used in the B6 (which the chilton says it is a B6ZE), or do I need to use alittle less? I have done some research and noticed that both engines use the same part number when it comes to oil filters, but I just dont want to damage the motor by adding too much oil. If this is not the factory motor that came with the car, considering I can't seem to find any vin numbers on the motor, does anybody know what problems I may be facing with compatibility between the transmission and the computer?

Thanks,

Keith

The stock '95 RS engine in North America is a B6DE not B6ZE. I'm not sure at the moment, but I do recall seeing B55 something stamped on my engine, or one at the wrecker's and I'm pretty sure it was a B6DE.

As far as the engine oil. Assuming your engine is not a b6, just put a little less than the B6 calls for, then after running the engine and lowering the car from the ramps, add oil until the dipstick reads full. Seems pretty simple really...

So do we have b6 in our cars or do we share the z5d motor from the 95 protege? Both are dohc yet one is 1.5 and the other is 1.6. Why did Mazda do this?

I just told you in my post. '94+ is B6DE.

The only B5 I know of came in Jspec AZ3.

Post a pic of the motor, we'll let you know...

umcamara... I know how to read, just because people are not as knowledgable as you claim to think you are, you dont have to respond with such ignorant answers. ...anyways...

Ryan, here is what the motor looks like, which I do believe as... umcamara stated is a b6de, however the casting on the side states b55.

What on Earth are you talking about. Consider yourself as now having one less person willing to help you out.

I wasn't trying to be an a--, it just seems like in every post I make, when you post a response it is almost belittling. But I guess lucky me, it is not that big of a problem

I'm not trying to belittle you. I answered your original post very respectfully I believe. I do not claim to know everything, but I do know that the stock RS engine in North America after '94 was the B6DE, which I mentioned in my first post. As you didn't seem to acknowledge that in any way by asking afterwards if the stock engine was some other engine, I felt it necessary to inform you that I'd already answered that question.

I have no problem admitting when I don't know the answer to a question, and will typically say that I'm not sure, if I'm not sure.

I always try to be helpful on this forum, and in all aspects of life. If you can't appreciate that, then that is your own perogative.

Ok... so it is safe to say that my wife's mx-3 has not been jew'd with a 1.5 z5d motor and that I do indeed have a 1.6? Are the B55 and the b6de the same motor or is it just that the same casting will work for both the protege and the mx-3?

Umcamara, I do apologize looking back I was alittle brash with my comment.

The B55 casting on the head is just a casting number. It IS a B6DE. You HAVE a B6 in the MX-3. Z5 shares similar characteristics as the B6, but its not the same. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_Z_engine#Z5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
