If you've still got the K8, find the tap size that threads into the coolant sensor hole.

tried any metric bolts that are near that size and no luck. its a straight thread as sensor seals with a gasket , tried mazda shops and parts stores but nobody seems to have info on thread size.

If all else fails you can do what I always did and that was just to drill a hole in the neck that's about the size of the threaded part of the sensor and then just slop some jbweld on the thread and twist it in the hole, throw some around the edges once its in and its golden. Never had a problen with 4+ swaps

i just swap the coolant pipe from the k8 to the ze when i do motor swaps. best time to do this is when replacing the water pump and timing belt....you really should do this before putting into the car, nothing worse than replacing a timing belt while the motor is in the engine bay. i have done this on four ze swaps, two de swaps and on one k8 swap.

Rather than drill holes and blah blah why not just get a 94/5 probe/MX6 ecu and KL02 VAF and you only need 1 temp sensor, which you already have.

I've seen in some cases you don't lose any power, but actually increase power by using the MX6 ECU. VRIS points could still be changed by a chipper. Dunno, up to you, I'm gonna try the stock MX6 ecu + KL02 soon and see how it goes.

+1 for this... if you get the right ZE, it'll come with a straight neck IM which you'll need to take off and swap out anyway...

when we get the motors back to the shop i clean them up, pull the i.m. off to check it over and make sure nothing got into the runners and into the engine, make sure the manifold if good and nothing is broken. also swap out timing belt with pulley's and water pump, these can be picked up off ebay for about 150.00. pull off front and rear valve covers to check cam codes and to check out the inside, reseal the gaskets and put it all back together. it takes abit of time and extra money but this gives you a good idea before putting the motor in to only find out the motor doesnt run, timing belt slipped, someone put crap in the intake manifold during shipping or the rear valve cover leaks out quarts a day. when the timing belt gets changed we rotate the motor a good dozen times to make sure the timing is good.

sensor is a 12m/1.5. Finished swap last nite. Runs like a top, smooth idle no surging or engine light on, no issues at all so far.Goes like stink compared to the 1.8, gonna put some k on it to see if it uses oil but the exhaust looks good so far.Are the heads, crank, intake, anything from the 1.8 of any value or just sell the whole thing by the pound?

the 1.8 is a useless lump once you do the swap. Take off all the outer parts like disty and alt etc and then scrap it.

When I bought my car it came with a big bin full of random k8 parts, that shows how useful k8's are. :P

Hmmm yeah the K8, I might try and sell my old one for $100. I might struggle but I'll try!
