upgades???

Post by sleeper17 »

whats up guys im new to the site just wanted to ask some questions. im gettin a lot of info just reading this forum its great. so i just bought a 93 mx-3 i use to own a 93 mx-6 that i built up real well but sold it. anyways i never got into the mx-3 stuff. i cant belive this is a 1.8L v6. that seems real small. but this car is fast and i like it. so if there are any mods i can do to make it faster let me know cuz like anyone faster to me is better. thanx.

search and read some more.

I don't think you did much, or you would have read the term

KLZE.

If you can't find that term in here, you can't find hay in a haystack.

helpful? ZE is helpful.

There's a reason its so popular.

The reason is that 200HP in a 2500lb car = awesomeness

B16 < ZE by lots. ZE has the torque powa. Turns wheels at 3k instead of at the 6k for the B16.

What kinda helpful advice are you looking for?

Get MX3/MX6 headers
ebay intake
2.5 catback (after or with ZE)
and get the proper electronics.

Do that, and you crave more, grab an old DE and build it for BOOST.

There will always be a faster car out there. No point in trying to go for the fastest or having a huge ego when you do swap and build up. The MX-3 is so similar to the MX-6 in terms of aftermarket modding that you shoudn't have to do much reading here anyway. In fact, I've been custom fitting many things from my friends 6 into my 3 and they're working fine. Keep looking thru the search because all the basic info for doing it is here. Have fun, make the car your own, and enjoy!

no this is not gooseberry and the crx w/B16 is mine. i auto cross it and wana auto cross the mazda. i love hatch backs and the mx-3 is a good lookin car. i actually bought it for my girlfriend so she could learn the track and drag strip with me. so most these questions are for her also.

KLZE for MX3 and MX6 are direct bolt ons. Have fun! Make sure you check the codes to be sure that you are in fact getting a ZE and not something else. It happens quite often enough.

KLZE is a direct swap, but that does not mean it is simply take engine out, put engine in. There are a number of things you will need to check/upgrade in the process, so that you do not have to spend MORE time and energy in the future.

KLZE is ~$800. If this is too high, get a KLDE (probe/mx6 motor) from a junkyard.

You will NEED a new clutch. Alot of opinions on this, I suggest NOT going for a pucked clutch, and not buying an ebay special. Get it sized for a probe/mx6. ~$300

Stainless steel clutch line $50

Front/back poly engine mounts to reduce engine movement $160

New waterpump/timing belt, pulleys and tensioner $200

Spark plugs, wires $90

Curve neck manifold if you buy a straight neck motor ($150...but then you can sell your straight neck for roughly the same price, so this is 0)

Misc. $200

So budget 1800-2000 for yourself to do it right, and it will be a much better upgrade than going to a turbo. Keep in mind if you source stuff from a junkyard or wait for sales you can cut this price down alot. These prices are all if you do the work yourself. I would not suggest skimping on anything in this list, except maybe spark plugs. You will regret it if you do.

KLZE's have more HP and a flatter torque curve than the KLDE's.
