4cyl dohc only came in the 94 95. do you need the sohc 93 or the dohc 94?

(sorry to hi-jack the thread)
SuperK, you keep taunting me with that pic! i'm trying not to buy that intake, but you're not helping!
and if needed, i can take a pic of a SOHC. although i just sold my '92 and they are very much different. OP, can you take a pic and post it? i might be able to find you one at the local JYs for like $75 or so, although i'm in FL.

Do you still need a head. The yard has a 93 by me. Let me know what you are looking to spend and I will check out the yards prices. ( I wouldent think it would be over 30  )

so im guessing it would be cheaper to just buy a used head an put it on right?! but how hard is it to swap to a dohc?

Hey man, just call all of the scrap yards around you and ask for a BP. I swear you'll be happier. Don't bother repairing the SOHC head, just spend $300 and drop the whole motor.

ask for 1.8L DOHC motors that came in:

early proteges, escort GT's, merc tracers and kia sephias....

do some wikipedia research: Mazda B engine

It plugs right in, no worries at all.

if you have low psi on a cylinder, that's usually not an indicator to replace your head.

Having a machine shop RR your head is cheaper than anything. If you have your head resurfaced and stem seals replaced you're looking prolly about 200 dollars max.
If you get a used head, you're going to want to do exactly this anyways, so use your current head.

Your low PSI might be your actual piston rings wearing.

Ok so my two best options are to have the original head machined or upgrade to the 1.8 dohc but with that dont i have to get trans and new mounts and stuff?

Nope. Same trans bolts up, mounts bolt up. You only need the ECM (not even right away) and abot 3' of any kind of wire. Maybe some electrical tape.

I got to drive a BP-T a couple weeks ago. Definitely a fun engine.

I would, though, encourage, if you purchase an engine from a junkyard or elsewhere, might as well rebuild her before you drop her in.

So save up some money before you decide on what you'd like to do. Do the job right the first time, so you don't have to try again a second.
