Re: Favorite car
I didn't think of that. Other then the fact that hard pipes last longer, any real benefits?93vtecklr wrote:Have you thought about doing all hard pipes? I did on my dsm and dayamn!
Re: Favorite car
When the plastic/rubber pipes get older, they crack and leak, boost pressure is lost, and you're losing metred air. Your car runs like a-- and will stall every chance it gets. It's too bad mitsus are like that. Keep on top of that timing belt! Once you throw teeth you throw valves.

Re: Favorite car
That's why it's a bad idea to dump the bypass valve to atmosphere, my buddy did that, and to keep it running he buggered with the timing, Hi there valve, meet piston.

Re: Favorite car
You mean that's an interference engine ON BOOST?
I don't really know much about mitsus, but that doesn't sound right...

Re: Favorite car
Yeah, to say the least. I'm trying to imagine a scenario where you'd need to design an engine like that, or what could possibly be the advantage of doing so...Dark_Rider2k3 wrote:yeah he seriously isn't lying man. Well imagine you know you are going to get laid off after you finish this design. I'd do something like that out of spite alone, or even just for the lulz.Inodoro Pereyra wrote:Yeah, to say the least. Re: Favorite car
Yeah the first time I heard it was an interference motor was when I was replacing the belts/hoses. I was like "..wait... really?"
But yeah.. it's interesting to say the least..

Re: Favorite car
I've been reading a little, and the only thing that caught my attention is that it's a (fairly) short stroke engine.
Is it particularly high revving?

Re: Favorite car
I bought my dsm three days after a fresh rebuild, did the hard pipes, already had the 16g upgrade. I upgraded to an aftermarket intake/exhaust, and rims. It was idling a little weird and since I was really noobish i bought it when he said it idled lumpy because of a lack of backpressure. Turns out it was timing. The belt snapped, and after a 3800 estimate, I gave the car to my mechanic in exchange for work on my mx3.
