Water leaking into car.

Post by jkbreazeale »

I was forced to take out the carpet in the car because water keeps seeping in from the cracks in the floor. Is there a product that I can use to seal the entire floor of the car?

You sure it's from the floor, and not bad seals at the tops of the doors??

Positive because there are cracks underneath the seat and since I have removed the carpet and cleaned it up I went through a puddle of water and now there is rusty water underneath my seats as well as black cracks everywhere

i have a option but i dont know if you want to go that way. 1. you could use a metal epoxy on the cracks. Im not sure how well that will work with the rust or painting over the epoxy. never done it. have heard of people doing though. or Two dynamat the floor and kill the outside noise while your at it.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I may go a similar route. I am going to try to fiberglass the entire floor from firewall to backseat and let that cure. Then lay bondo over the top of that, so that when I put the carpet back in, it wont be so lumpy.

Dynamat is not a water-tight seal. It would likely promote rusting.

Weld it, or use a metal epoxy. Don't cheap out, if you don't fix this inside your car and beneath it, you won't have the car for very much longer. If you don't care what it looks like, it should not cost alot to get it welded closed. Just tell them to leave it bare metal, or prime it. Then you do your best to clean it up and prime/paint it.

I agree. If you don't do it right the first time, your going to rust up the bottom and then be out of a car. And I'm sure getting it welded shut shouldn't be too much money.
