Help needed! Can someone measure their trailing arm for me??
Hey guys I need a measurement of the rear trailing arm from a 1994 MX-3 GS V6 with rear disc brakes. Thinkin' center of bolt hole to center of bolt hole would be easiest. To avoid confusion the trailing arm is the red one in this stolen diagram
I have a MX-3 GS V6 (rear disc brake) and a 1997 Escort Wagon Parts car. I cut the trailing arms to get the crusty MX-3 GS V6 (rear disc brake) rear suspension out, then I chucked the chopped up arms. I would like to use the 97 Escort wagon (drum brake) trailing arms on the MX-3 GS V6 rear suspension and jam it it the back of my 94 Mazda 323. Anyone know if this is possible?? Confused yet?? (I am and I typed it).
Thanks Jason

The RS and GS arms are basically the same, just the end that bolts to the spindle is about a half inch longer in the direction that the bolt into the spindle goes. It will bolt up, you may just need that bolt from the GS so that it's long enough.Ryan wrote:I'm curious too, I want to put my brand new RS trailing arms on a GS subframe swap

Interesting, so what your saying is the RS and GS have the same length of trailing arm?? I am confused which trailing arm is thicker the RS or the GS??umcamara wrote:The RS and GS arms are basically the same, just the end that bolts to the spindle is about a half inch longer in the direction that the bolt into the spindle goes. Nope not the info I need there either.........
Wow that google search was so informative, thanks again for your help!
Oh wait here is something:
"The lenght is the same, but attach at the rear knuckle (bushing/shim design on mx-3) is not the same. You can run BG trailing arm with a complete Mx-3 V6/4cyl rear, but you'll need to pry the trailing arms slightly and bushing(s) effectiveness is not at it's max, same for bushing life".
I take back every nasty thing I just called your mother.

Re: Help needed! Can someone measure their trailing arm for me??
The only difference between RS and GS trailing arms is the width of the rear bushing. The bushign itself is wider and the whole thing is offset from the spindle by the position of the inner sleeve of the bushing (the sleeve sticks out of the GS bushing to act like a sort of spacer) by about 4mm IIRC. This difference is due to the different shape of the GS spindle (disks vs. drums).
IMACHU2, the length of the trailing arm should be the same. The Protege part has the same part number as the MX-3 RS and I know that the RS one is the same length as the GS one.
Your RS arm will bolt up to a GS spindle Ryan. However you will need some sort of spacer to align it correctly and you will need a shorter bolt than the stock GS spindle uses.

Re: Help needed! Can someone measure their trailing arm for me??
wytbishop: Thanks for clearing that up for me, based on that information I can make a trailing arm decision
I was torn because I have a 1997 Escort parts car (that Energy Suspension makes busings for) or I could buy new MX-3 GS arms with new rubber bushings from Altrom. It was the not knowing that was killing me
Mx3Kid16: Your not that big of a douche, I have been tying to figure out my trailing arm situation for a while now and I was getting frustrated by the lack of information I was finding. Then I saw someone had responded to my post! I got all excited thinking the post would help me solve my suspension dilemma that I had been obsessing over.......then I read what you posted.

First, I cannot verify anything regarding the ZX2 or any other Escort. I do not know if their parts will fit or not.
Second, yes...he is.

Re: Help needed! Can someone measure their trailing arm for me??
I hestitate to post this up here
At the risk of demonstrating early onset "old timers disease"........I remember reading a posting that this AWR trailing link product (88 to 91 MX6) bolts up to the EC8 chassis Presso (your GS MX3).
http://www.awrracing.com/store/product_ ... cts_id=329" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I have tried to find/search for the link to that post without any success (yet). In the meantime you might want to check it out and prove or disprove the suggestion.
Is US$135 considered pricey for an AWR bushed trailing arm???

Re: Help needed! Can someone measure their trailing arm for me??
It does look like it would. The price probably isn't that bad either. I wouldn't buy it though until I confirmed the length. Tony at AWR would tell you the center to center length if you asked him to.
