Hi everyone,
I recently bought an MX-3 (first car - so excited!!), and it is pretty obvious to tell that the previous owner tried to touch up the front bumper with house paint and did an awful job of it, and now it's starting to chip, especially near the edges of the paint... What are some preferred/ the best ways to remedy this?

Well, the best way would be, obviously, to get a new paintjob. Other than that, you could do a decent job (sometimes) by sanding the part carefully, evening out the bumps and scratches with some bondo, and then priming and painting with rattle cans.
However, I would first take a hard look at the rest of the car, and then decide what's best.

Just make sure your rollers are clean...

You can sand it down to original paint/primer and then seal it and shoot paint over that.

When I picked up my datsun there was a roll on paint job. It was house paint! It took me 10hrs to get down to the steel on one bed side.
1993 Blaze Red SE, 17" blackie's, b+m sts, 45 deg 3" exh pipe/intake tube, K8ZE, aftmkt probe headers, magnaflow hi-cat, all 2.5" piping, magnaflow muffler.
1976 Datsun 620 p/u, full airride, Firestone 2600`s, 16ga fuel cell, Optima yellow top, AZ compressor, custom tubular frame with 9in step notch, 18" 100 spokes
1955 Willys Overland 4x4 P/U, '78 LT1 350 cu.in, fully restored.

...and get ready to shell out some coin. My car came with a low end MAACO paint job. It started coming off in about 18 months.

Yeah, I know a few guys who went the Maaco route, and I think I know how to fix the problem. Seems that paint is one of the more expensive and/or labor intensive parts about this car

you will be suprised what a nice wax and detail will do.
other then that a new paint job is the only solution...

I haven't seen the pic either, but the best thing for my willys was a really really good wetsand, and polish. It made the 26yr restoration look new again. It took about a day to do and the results made my eyes pop.
